    Hi there,

I'm having an ongoing issue with my 2006 Prius. The problem is it's so intermittent that I've taken a few months to be able to document it to post here. I think it has happened 4 times now, approx 1 month apart each.
Out of the blue, I get a warning beep, red triangle of death and an error on the heads up display.

I've since bought a bluetooth OBDII scanner to read and reset the codes which only shows the code P3000. I understand there should be sub codes to this, so my first question is, is there an android app that can display these sub codes?

Over the last few months I've been trying to diagnose the issue from previous forum posters but haven't seemed to resolve it. I've done the following so far:

-Downloaded the DR Prius app to check the battery voltage and resistance. From what I understand none of this indicates a faulty battery/cell:

-Checked the big orange isolator switch and connector has clean contacts.

-One of the most common causes documented online seems to be the HV cooling fan, so I pulled this, gave it and the associated ducting a good clean and checked it operates ok. However it didn't really look too bad in the first place. (The car has done approx 160k kms)

Every time I have reset the code after checking various things, it goes away for approx a month before it comes back. While the red triangle of death displays, the car drives as per normal, charges and discharges etc.

So now with the issue still seemingly unresolved, I'm not sure where to go next...Do I need to figure out the extended troubleshooting code? Do I need to remove and investigate inside the battery itself?

P3000 is a code set by the hybrid control ecu that says "hey, there's a code in the HV battery ecu- go look over there."

Did you use Dr Prius to check for codes in the HV battery ecu?- I believe it is in the menu item "special features - read battery errors" .

Few scantools have the capability to communicate with all the computers (ecu's) in a Prius and get codes and data. One option is to get a mini VCI cable along with a bootleg copy of Toyota techstream and put it on an old windows laptop.

I was using a different generic OBDII scanner app as I wasn't aware that DR Prius could do that, but now I do I will have to check that the next time it errors and hopefully that will help focus my search. If that doesn't help I will try looking for a copy of tech stream as you mentioned.
