Driving only in power mode

I do it (several months at 1000 miles/week) because I have a lingering ankle injury and power mode is the most comfortable setting. Prior to that I almost always used eco mode. Only noticed a very marginal difference when weather was comparable.

 

I have never done it, but in theory, there should not be much difference in mpg either in Power mode or Eco mode. The only difference is the throttle response, so you can drive Power mode economically or Eco mode wastefully either way. That being said, in addition to the throttle response, Eco mode does restrict the use of HVAC, so overall you may see a slight decrease in mpg if you are not using Eco mode.

 

if you're heavy footed and pay no attention to driving for mpgs, eco mode may save a few sheckles

 

I have found that unlike the other 2 modes (normal and eco), the ICE never stops once you shift into it, even if you shift back into ECO or NORMAL mode (until the car is turned off). So that's a bit of a downer, since you can't casually shift into it and the back into EV only mode on a drive, again unless you completely power the car off.

 

Not that I have tried using POWER mode extensively, but from my few times of using POWER mode, that is not the way my PP behaved. I could certainly switch back and force between POWER, NORMAL, and ECO modes and still stay in EV mode without ever having the engine come on, that is of course I have enough EV range left in the battery.

My apologies, I was able to go back into full EV after shifting into power mode today.

 

May have been warm up cycle?

 

The only way I drive it. 50+ mpg highway (65-80mph legal speeds here). In town, I’m EV only + PWR mode only and see 28-29 miles estimates upon start up. 2019 42k miles.
