I just installed a Sony AX-5000 head unit in my 2015 Prius V iii and it works great. I knew going into it that I would lose the compass from the original Nav system, as well as the playing now screen on the secondary screen in the instrument cluster. There were a couple of unused connections after installing the Sony unit, is it possible to route data to the secondary screen (not necessarily from the head unit) from another source, such as a Raspberry Pi with Nav chip?

I have been told I am the de-facto expert on the "MultiFunction Display" (MFD). I am working on becoming the de-facto expert on the Instrument Cluster (IC). That "Secondary Window" in the IC is called the "Extra Info Display" (EID) or "Multi Info Display" in Toyota talk.

I am unclear what EID display items you are hoping to get back that you had with the factory 510057 MFD. If you wanted just one display (like just the Compass, or just the "playing now screen"), then there would be no need to deal with the steering wheel controls. Otherwise, it would get very complicated simulating the menu logic for the EID.

I don't have access to the schematics, but I am intrigued by your question. Others might be able to help with schematics. This is not going to be a simple project, and you may have to cut into wires on a third connector on the back of the IC.

I have two Prius v's. First I have a 2013 Prius V which I replaced the original MFD with the same 510057 MFD that you just replaced (made by Panasonic). The 2012-14 model year ICs do not have the EID.

I also have a 2017 four that has the same setup as your 2015 v three. It has a very similar 510165 Panasonic MFD, and an IC with the EID. I can elaborate on the differences between the two types of Instrument Clusters (with and without EID), and both types of MFDs (Pre 2015 "Facelift", and Facelift).

Look forward to hearing more. I am just north of Philly, and you are in Maryland, so we might be able to meet face to face.

I have thought about this a little more. If it is the compass display you want, you would need to hide the old MFD under the dash somewhere. The Nav system uses GPS satellite data combined with Speed and Turning data to provide an accurate heading and location. Even if you could get a Raspberry Pi with a GPS module to display the direction, the Compass would freeze whenever you were in a Tunnel, or in an area with tall buildings.
