Connecting iPhone SE contacts to Prius 2010 with nav--Possible or not?

I have a 2010 Prius with nav(since 2009) and an iPhone SE. Just saw that I should be able to load the contacts from the phone into the Prius Phone system. I went the the phone screen, pressed Contacts, it asked if I'd like to add or replace. Either choice led me to the question: do you want to disconnect the current device? When I choose no, it throws me back to the phone screen. When I choose yes, it says "loading contacts" However, the phone is no longer connected so the contacts don't load. Is this a lost cause? The car is great but this system seems antiquated....
