Yes when one thing is happening to a lot of owners of the same product internet mailing lists and what have you will be bombarded with the same headline usually for about as many members as there are of the group because that's just how people are as soon as something happens to them it's big news but all the while it's been happening for a year so it hasn't been any kind of news because it hasn't happened to them now it's happened to them first thing they do is roll that chair around to their keyboard drawer and start hacking away not even giving salt to how many hundreds of times they've already seen this headline on the list they belong to and are now typing the same headline too pretty much no forethought The big I only matters what's happened to them.

My opinion.....asking the same question over and over is just about as useless as threads like THIS asking for opinions about how other people behave.

Maybe the "reply" or "post" buttons need to first bring up a banner that asks: " HAVE YOU SEARCHED THIS SITE FOR PREVIOUS ANSWERS TO THIS QUESTION ? If not, please do before posting."

BUT....maybe one site in a million does something like that. I don't remember the last time that I saw it.

You aren't going to change basic (lazy) human nature so why waste time talking about it ??

One way that happens, on a forum that works like PriusChat, is when a person who has recently had a cat stolen will come to PriusChat, search for existing threads about that, and add a "me too!" comment at the end of each one.

That brings all of those threads to the front of the recent-posts list, and then you look at the list and think "OMG! look at all those stolen cat threads!"

Not saying cat theft isn't a serious problem; it is. But one facet of what you're seeing is just how the forum software works.

The poor soles posting about their loss may be finding it therapeutic.

my new prius is a 2007. I was gonna make a thread about why the mileage only runs at 40mpg considering it has all dealer-records for the past 10 years. Previous owner even took it into the dealership to get the bulbs changed.

I'll research it myself though before bothering anyone. Unless you have some advice? ....... ;)

    thank you for that answer.

Recently it came to my attention (Y'know how youtube keeps suggesting/feeding you related videos once you search a topic? re: my exhaust removal)....that some Prius Gen 2 drivers get upwards of 50-55mpg. I don't think they are hypermilers either from what little I know.

So I figured maybe my new Prius 2007, had something that needed to be updated. The previous owner just changed the oil 200 miles before she sold it (she left the oil change company sticker on the window) . I knew it was well taken care of so ....I was kinda perplexed why there seems to be such a range of gas mileage normal drivers experience. Notwithstanding those that live in different geographical and topographical areas.

There are huge MPG differences depending on how the vehicle is used, under what conditions, and on driver style. This applies to all cars, not just Prii.

Here are some relevant posts to get started:
Why Don't I Get The EPA Mileage? | PriusChat
Fuel economy complaints/queries? Please copy, paste & answer these questions, esp. if you're new | PriusChat

There are some old-car issues to be looked at too, but not covered in these threads.

my opinion is that we need a cat with quick disconnects, but if any thread needed derailing, this is it

A year ago I tried to pull all the posts together in this post: Prius Cat Theft Tracking | PriusChat in hopes that we'd be able to stop the never ending posting of the same thing repeatedly. Sadly, I was accused of teaching cat thieves how to get better at stealing.

Also from an ad-revenue perspective, paying the bills to keep PriusChat going depends on new content no matter how annoying it us to us regulars. However, if the owner wants to set up a monthly price for membership and we designed the website to quickly help people with the right links rather than have conversations with every newbie's post, I'd be willing to put some money into that. But I doubt making changes like that at this stage in the Prius lifespan is realistic.

Like a Grab-n-Go package for a thief? And put the O2 sensor on the part that stays so it needn’t be repaired?

I mean the only people affected by this in any drastic kind of way are the California emissions standard states which I hope is just California but out here on the East Coast where we have the missions they don't care what cats in the car makes no difference as long as you pass the sniff test if that's what you've got or your OBD connector is sending the right numbers to the state computer nobody really cares at the end of the day that's what emissions testing was all about what's coming out the tailpipe not what you've got under the hood of your car how many million horsepower how many cats how many EGR valves that should make no difference at the end of the day at the end of the day what should make a difference is what's coming off the tailpipe being sniffed by the properly calibrated machinery end of story all the rest is essentially trash government trash. And I personally don't play that I've driven around cars for upwards of the year with improper semi illegal registrations whatever Even when caught by the cops they usually don't do anything and if they do it's a ticket for like $25 because some paperwork doesn't match but again as long as a person has financial responsibility of the mess they're making generally in the eyes of the law you get a pass and a very small fine 10 $20
