So I have the feeling I know the answer is gonna be bad but I'm holding out hope here. So I have a 2008 Prius that is currently giving me the p3000 and p0A80 codes. My car runs like butter and I've had the p0A80 code before and when it happened previously my dealer took it in to work on it they said it was just wire corrosion, fixed it up and returned it to me. Then came the blizzard, well for KY it was one anyways, of a couple weeks ago. It killed my 12volt so I had to wait till all the snow storms passed to replace it. When I first started it and drove it everything was fine. Then when I turned it off and back on all my lights lit up. Now I've gotten them all off by manually resetting them but my triangle of doom and check engine are on. I took it to a toyota certified mechanic who gave me the news. So I'm left wondering if I did something when putting in the battery or what? I am afraid of it being my battery needing replaced because of financial issues right now and hoping I just need to replace the control module.

Why are you left wondering what's the news the certified toyota mechanic gave you? You need a new hybrid battery?

He would probably be correct. Most posted thread on here is bad hybrid battery. Welcome to the club. Just age and then letting the car sit. Killed your 12 it will kill the hybrid battery too.

Use the search forum link up top and search hybrid battery theirs hundreds of posts about it from rebuilding it to replacing it with new or after market. Start reading.

Between bad hybrid battery and the car being thee #1 Cat theft target its not a great car to own right now.

There's still plenty of life left in your pack... First step, get an OBDII reader and install Dr. Prius App on your phone so you can measure packs vital signs in real time, as well as clear codes while you drive so you don't end up on the side of the road. Here's buyer's guide: Hybrid battery diagnostic and repair tool for Toyota and Lexus

Then you're gonna need to do some reconditioning of your hybrid battery pack by charging and balancing with a high voltage trickle charger. You can buy the expensive ones from Maxx Volts or Hybrid Automotive, or you can build your own for less than $100: Build Hybrid Battery Maintenance Gear For Under $100 | PriusChat

Then once you're set up with that you'll need to use lightbulbs to discharge pack and recharge it 3 times and each time discharging to a deeper level. This will restore your current battery capacity that's probably down close to 50% back up to 96% and you'll notice much better performance: BU-807: How to Restore Nickel-based Batteries - Battery University

Of course if you believe the so-called "experts" who care more about money than lifespan of our planet's precious resources you're gonna lose $3K right away.

Car is fine, hybrid battery is on its way out. You can recondition and get some more months out of it with a hobby charger and some time. But yeah, those codes mean your modules cells are out of balance and battery is on the fritz. Maybe just a large delta number

Well when he gave me the codes and info he walked off into the back of his office emerged later and said looks like block 7 is going. Now the whole thing of him walking off into the back and not having the info when he gave me the rest just made it feel like he wanted to rip me off for $4,100 + tax.

Wow that's a bit outside of my comfort zone, was looking to pay for a reconditioned battery cause I really don't have the money for a new one. I'll definitely try to build one of these though for next time, I'm just not savvy enough to build this without spending a while reading the guide for it. Thank you so much though for the information I hadn't seen it on the boards so I didn't know there was a way for me to do it on my own.

The mechanic said it was my 7 cell but the way he did it made me feel sketchy so I'm gonna order that reader and use the Dr. Prius app would have been cheaper too the guy charged me $60 to just read the codes but was cheaper than everyone else who wanted $100+ including toyota who wanted $150.

Yea kinda needing a few more months on it cause by then I can afford to get a battery new or reconditioned though I'd rather go with a reconditioned was told Green Bean was good for the states.

A reconditioned battery can be good for 3 months to 3 years... A brand new battery can be good for more than a decade...

You never mentioned how many miles on the car.
