Deep Dive into the 2022 Toyota Prius. Is it still a good buy in 2022?

Don't you just love TheCarCare nuts channel? As a DIYer, I've learned a TON of great stuff from the master mechanic! I need to ask him if my AWD motor has gear lube I need to be draining/filling periodically. (I'd assume it does...I'll have to look next time I have it up on a lift.)

I did NOT know that strange device on the rear leaf was a sensor to let the car know the rear has extra weight and, automatically, adjusts the headlights....wow! I remember seeing it when I had the car on the lift and wondered what in tarnation IS that thing!

He told me he's, already, seen 2016-2017 Prius' in his shop for service with over 200,000 miles and were solid...no issues at all.

 

Didn't bother watching but love our 21....

 

Electric motors in the rear of those AWD systems use WS ATF.

 

He mentions (at 17:00) that for 2022 the tpms sensors are revised, more easily detachable, and they program themselves with a bit of driving.

 

Excellent! I'll have to add that to my list of things to do at the 3-year mark. Glad it's using WS fluid. In my daughter's 2016 Mazda CX-5, I wanted to change our her rear differential fluid and found you can ONLY use the stuff from Mazda and it's $30 a quart....what a rip-off. At the Mazda stealership, they charge $21 for an oil filter....outrageous!

That's not as bad, Mendel, but charging for a drain plug gasket is a little on the side of "nickle-and-dime!"

My daughter's Mazda was bought used last year and only came with one key fob. I got an OEM one on-line for under $20 (I didn't even bother asking our Mazda dealership what they charge.)
Anyway, I'm having a hard time programming it with my automotive scan tool (it has that feature). A mechanic said Mazda's have one of the most difficult electronic key systems out there. So I called Mazda and priced out a program job....$170! So I called my Toyota dealer and they are going to do it Saturday morning for $65. I love the CX-5 but starting to hate the dealership.
