    Gas smell in Engine oil.

My car Prius v 2015, odo 96k km. Smelling gas in the engine oil. When I removed dip stick and placed near nose, strong gas smell. Engine oil replaced 2.5 months ago. Its a bit strong octane odor.

I scanned car by obd2 scanner, no codes found. No misfires. AFR little rich. Its value near or below 14.7.

It has also cold start gas smell in the morning. Should I replace PCV?

Engine oil changed 2.5 months ago and ran 2000km. Throttle body cleaned 6 months ago.

I attached my scanning video so that you can watch the scanning results.

    I appreciate your suggestions.

And the fuel thins out the oil and causes accelerated bearing and seal wear.
This needs to be fixed SOON.

Gas smell is normal in winter or near the end of oil change. I usually change the engine oil in April, and after winter month I smell gas too. Nothing to worry, I sent the sample to lab and no measurable gasoline dilution, below their equipment sensitivity.
I used 0w-20 Castrol Edge and change it every 10k miles. I plan to switch to 5k miles interval to prevent oil consumption that kill catalytic converter. Mine is 80k miles 2015. Some pre 2015 owner experience oil consumption right aafter 100k miles.

Thanks. You are right. Today I checked my injectors, all are ok. No leaking. Cleaned throttle body. Change engine oil and filter early, just after 2.5 months and only 2000 km. Let see how it works.

During this it accumulated nearly 200ml oil. When I changed oil 2.5 months ago it was little low than high mark on the dipstick, today it was completely at par the high mark.

If you're not getting any codes, it might not be anything to worry about but I'd add a small bottle of injector cleaner in the gas tank. (I've used Lucas injector cleaner for years and seems to do the trick.) I run a bottle in all our vehicles a couple times a year or so. (Depends on how old the car is, we have seven in the family.)
When you fill up the car, you don't add any fuel after the nozzle clicks, do you? Folks who "top off" can be accidentally adding fuel into the vapor canister which can make a strong gas smell.

If you rarely go in highway more than 30 minutes cruise speed, using top tier gasoline help. I found anything added to tank is waste of money. The gasoline smell is caused by short trip or many cold start in winter. It is not caused by dirty injectors.

If you know how to remove injectors, just clean the injectors with 9V battery+cable+rubber hose to contain the solvents. Isopropanol or carburetor cleaner works fine.

Let's see.......You had been a member here for about 7 years before you posted much and then lately there has been a FLOOD of stuff from you.......which has mostly been totally wrong and misleading.
What stirred you from your sleep ??

For instance, you have absolutely no way to know if any of that applies to HIS situation or not.
It certainly CAN be caused by a stuck injector.
And what do you think makes "top tier" gas ?
Hint: The same additives that you can buy in a can, mostly Techron.

You can buy any snake oil and put it in your tank. It is all placebo effect. It does not hurt the car, just your wallet.

A clogged injector will be so noticeable, it will runs like crap, it will not idle right, and almost no prius owner who drive the car in highway regularly have this issue.

It is normal in winter time with tons of cold starts. You can send your oil sample to blackstone or any lab for fuel dilution so you will be convinced .

Early start gas smell is normal in all cars because they always run rich until reaching operating temperature. Noticable in winter.

You can reduce it by changing the oil in November so by the time you want to change the oil again, it pass summer time and less fuel smell.

My point is, nothing wrong with your car.

And your point is likely TOTALLY wrong because you have NO way to know that.

The tiny little bit of extra gas supplied to the engine when cold is all burned up or evaporated.
It certainly will NOT be enough to run down past the rings into the oil.
A modern engine is good working order should NEVER have a distinct gasoline odor in the oil.

You might want to visit a Doctor and have him test you for a stroke or other brain anomaly because most of what you have been saying here makes no sense whatsoever.

I'll add some 2 cent internet comments.
In all my years, I never noticed any smell of gasoline from a dip stick tube or from an oil change.
(Maybe all that snuff has deadened my nasal passages LOL)
I also do have experience in snow zone or 0 degree weather as some of our co-member do who add the "its normal" comments.

Seems to me gas can only enter the engine through the heads, ie the injectors.
If the car runs well, I would doubt there is a cracked head and I also do not believe a head gasket would be the culprit.

I'd internet conclude that an injector seal is leaking or an injector is stuck open (not completely closing) and leaking fuel.
Even when parked, (typically) the injector rails contain pressure.

Best I could answer is to do a leak down test.

    Good luck.

The process of doing a "leak down test" has nothing to do with the fuel system.
That tests the heads and valves mostly.

A fuel pressure test after shutting the engine off would be more useful.

BUT now that he has messed with the injectors, the next step would be an oil change to see if he has accidentally fixed something.
    :)

From your video, everything is normal. The gas smell will disappear once the coolant temperature reaches 70C. Honestly, I had been in your situation worrying about all kinds of stuff, adding Techron, Gumout, etc. and nothing changed. my previous Prius went over 230k miles without issue until I need a hybrid battery in 11th year.

Don't listen to people who never work with cars more than yourself. Just wait until summer comes and after 3 or 4 months you can smell the oil in the dipstick again, it must be less than wintertime. For me, Mobil1, Castrol has a stronger gasoline smell after 10k miles than Valvoline or Pennzoil Ultra. Not sure why, but I only sample one or 2 times with the same brand because I used to buy oil whenever it is in discount + rebate.

Since you are in Bangladesh, my last paragraph may not fit you. I suspect you use crappy engine oil or counterfeit engine oil. Buy reputable oil from a reputable seller in your country. You may look for Mannol 0W-20 7722 508/509 or Addinol 0W-20 SN+ if Mobil1 0w-20 is too expensive for you.

I already test injectors, there is no leak. Cleaned them and changed oil. Hoping problem will disappear.

Thanks for giving suggestions from your experience. Its true when I reached the workshop they got little smell but in the morning I got strong smell. Rather technician said, they smelt it something burnt oil.

I also suspected, the oil was not good. Though it was bought from the main importer/dealer. I changed the oil and oil filter. I also cleaned throttle body and injectors. Hope, problem will not come again.

Prius 2015 or newer is not known for head gasket nor oil burning because of revised head gasket 2013, piston 2014, piston rings 2015. What is the Km/mileage in your car? How is it driven? You must turn the AC on all the time, it is part of the cooling system for the battery, it is air-cooled from inside the cabin. Few tips for dusty areas:
    1. Change oil every 8000 km/6 months and only use synthetic oil 0W-20 or any API SN, GF5 or 6A certified oil. just get the oil from Toyota dealership if necessary.
    2. Change the cabin air filter every year/12 months. If it is original Denso, Bosch, or any brand that used the same materials (fibers), you can merge and shake it with laundry detergent, just gently clean it.
    3. Use correct fuel, minimum AKI 87 octane or RON 92 octane rating.
    4. Don't add any additive, just the good synthetic oil every 6 months. Nothing better than standard engine oil formulation.
    5. Clean the underbody regularly if a lot of mud on the road.
    6. Brake fluid, Transmission fluid original WS, coolant original Super long life coolant (pink) every 6 years or 150 000 km is enough.
    7. Park in garage/shaded area, it will make the HV battery lasts longer.
