When I performed a search of NiMH modules for a 2006 prius, I was surprised that I could not find parts in Germany to minimize shipping and customs costs. I was also surprised that there wasn't any one from Germany that would have a suggestion or has gone through the experience. Also, there are many parts associated with the hybrid battery pack. So, if there was damage or a part became damaged during the repair, then the person would be out of luck unless the damage can be repaired easily. So, what has been the experience in this area? I am assuming that there are more hybrids on the road and certainly there are some encounters in this area.

Suspect it has something to do with how NiMH are classified as a chemical... In the US some states classified them as toxic waste, then later changed their mind.

Try to find out what Germany requires for disposal of packs once they're replaced. If you can find an old reject pack you can harvest the best modules off of it...

I was looking for the battery module. Could not get part from Germany. Found part in the UK.

I know of a mechanic that had anxiety about the battery. I was going to show him the battery module and tell him that even I did the battery work. My second thought is to give the module to the neighbor who operates a junk yard.

Yes... Old dinosaurs / close minded mechanics are scared of high voltage in hybrid cars and are certain to go out business once we see fossil fool cars get replaced. I run into to this stubborn stupidity all the time. Meanwhile these folks couldn't run their shop if it wasn't for the high voltage electricity powering it. It's just so dumb and unaware!

And Germany is a big country... I'm sure there's people who are Prius / hybrid car enthusiasts who got everything you need. You just need to track them down.

I will be talking to him when I get the oil change. Meanwhile, the junk yard person has no hybrid and does not deal with batteries.

Giveaway the old module(s) for free on Craigslist, nextdoor, offerup, etc. Some DIY enthusiast may want to repurpose them for a project.

Or they may want to use them as part of a returnable "core" when purchasing new battery at the dealership.

Thanks. Going to give the module to my mechanic. Also, what temperature below should the battery be? Would this be a cause of early life failure?

27C (80F) could be the sweet spot.
Your HV battery likely failed from a lack of usage over the last 16 years and 69k miles. If the telltale prefailure signs were observed, it could've been saved or reconditioned by using a 'grid charger' setup, and may have lasted many more years/miles.

Do you park the car in the sun with the windows up, or ride it hard (autobahn, hills, etc.) then park it hot?

I picked up the car in 2015 with low miles and not fully aware of the hybrid battery. Then came Covid-19 and not much driving except for essentials. Now, driving more and paying attention to liters/100km. The car is mostly driven within the city and local highway. Also, the car is garaged.
