I am located in the St Louis, MO area (West/outside the city/county).

Need capability to fix and reprogram a skid control ECU and/or a brake actuator.

I just purchased this old 2004 Prius last Summer and am not excited about paying more for a repair than I paid for the vehicle. And just one of the 2 possible repairs would do that at stealership prices and if both repairs are needed it could be 2x-3x the purchase price.

    Background:
Few weeks ago the brake light came on. I immediately stopped by the store and bought pads and went home to put them on. Turns out pads were perfect.

A week or so later we started to feel some vibrations or wobble on the brake peddle at random times.

Then we started hearing a 1-3 minute long beep and during that time the brakes were squishy bit worked.

Last week the beep lasted the entire 20 minute drive to the store and the whole 20 minutes home. So we parked the car until we could get it to a mechanic this week.

The trip to the mechanic had no beep at start up or the whole drive.

My research on a few forums pointed to brake actuator. Mechanic testing and code scams shows actuator appears fine but the skid control ECU as the problem and they can not reprogram so I have to find someone else.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I do not know what tool. But interesting when I got the car back the beep was gone and the brake light was out. However the light occasionally comes back on but then goes out again.

This got me to thinking that perhaps they had to disconnect it to test and when they plugged it back in perhaps it just had a better connection.

I will try to figure out where the connection is and see if there is corrosion. If there is what is the best course of action? Just some sand paper? Some sort of connection grease?
