I just finished watching this video:

He mentioned a filter being very important in the hybrid battery longevity, and that Toyota only added the filters on Gen 3 and above. My question is, is it possible to add a filter manually myself on a Gen 2? I currently have around 220k miles and would like to try and squeeze my way to 300k with good maintenance.

Depends on what region you live in which you don't indicate... If you live in northern cooler parts of US the fan will hardly ever be running. Main thing is keeping the fan itself clean, especially if you've got shaggy dogs that shed alot.

As for getting to 300K miles, learn all you can about restoring hybrid battery capacity & longevity by deep cycling either by a commercial product: FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) | Hybrid Automotive or by building your own: Build Hybrid Battery Maintenance Gear For Under $100 | PriusChat

Even better, consider upgrading to a higher quality, better performing battery pack that can be used not just on your existing Prius, but on the one you upgrade to at a later date: https://projectlithium.com/?ref=9qLPw

Just get some filter media cut out enough to cover the inlet and use some velcro to attach it to the inlet. I got a shedding doggie and it really helped. Its his car anyway.

You probably let your dog drive when you're on private property too...
