One of the benefits of being a service and parts guy at a well known Hybrid shop is I can do stuff like this in between jobs or after work. Oil Filter 'relocation kit' for Gen 3 Prius'. Just installed it today so i will look forward to the benefits of better oil flow, less drain back for cold starts, and the ability to run even a larger filter so that it can be changed every 2 oil changes (5k intervals). Added bonus of easy spin off capability...and using all OEM parts from the newer model Gen 4s. https://hybridpit.com/oil-filter-conversion-kit-for-toyota-prius-v-2zr-engine.html?fbclid=IwAR3kqVslhA5WGikanFG6FSALiN5XxlTN-wfoTiGZK_SFXHd3VcEF_oAQr-w

Not exactly "relocation", but yeah I agree, good for the easy spin-on filter style. Torque for those is 13 foot pounds (or 3/4 turn) btw.

That (linked) $185 USD price is pretty steep; I got my parts significantly cheaper (albeit sans oil filter) through Amayama:

    (Roughly $100 CDN, or $80 USD, all-in.)

Yes, the oil will come out, but that is the norm when changing any oil filter. The benefit for me was using the good'ol spin type oil filter. The 3 times I changed my oil with the original type was, for lack of a better word..................horrible. The dang thing always would literally glue itself tight and I had to lift up the car and use a 10 foot breaker bar (well, maybe a standard length breaker bar). I do like it now, much easier to remove.

I like the teardrop shape of the mating surface where the o-ring seals. That will "direct", along with good ol' gravity, a nice stream of oil downward when the filter is removed.

Very nice part I’ve seen this aftermarket too. But the m so used to the older cartridge 9 min oil change it’s no matter now . Even though all my older Toyz run spins. After the 2J and ZZ engines I gave up Modding . Didn’t want to live in the shop anymore. Now I just get to log 100K of miles every few years just enjoying my vehicles and time. I’m loooong into 10K oil changes on all Prii here most all over 300K or at it . They’ll all make 666 if brakes don’t take em out.
