is $1500 a fair price for replacement front strut assemblies, links, lower controls with bushings and ball joints? Its from a local very trusty mechanic, but it seems high unless there is 8-10 hours of labor here? I have no ability to do this myself, so don't even bother suggesting that!

1500, and given the labor involved, that doesn't sound like OEM parts from the dealership. What brand aftermarket parts are being used?

How many miles are on the vehicle, and have you taken it for a second or third opinion / estimate ?

Last time I checked at Rockauto.com, you can get a complete front strut assembly from AC Delco for about $75 per side. That will be 10x better than a Monroe/Gabriel branded item.

yeah I definitely can save money by getting the parts on my own, but its hard to find a reliable shop that will install your own parts, plus you have to risk not having any warranty if on the labor if something goes wrong down the road. For what he would charge for the labor alone, im probably spending an extra $400-$500 by getting the parts through him, I guess thats the price to pay to have reliability and full warranty on parts and labor

$1500 for Monroe Parts that will ride horrible and need replacement after a couple years or less than $200 for a quality AC Delco professional part without any warranty that will last way longer and ride much better than Monroe.

Warranty won't matter at this price point

Assuming the mechanic would use RA (some do), the parts total per side is around 250, if the parts were sourced locally they would likely cost more. Which makes the labor around 500 per side, and that seems a bit steep. How long is the parts/labor warranty?

As mentioned above, the US covers a fairly large area. No real interest in shopping the job around?
