I am about to sell my 2014 Prius and will first remove a 2KW inverter that pulls off the 12V battery through a 100A circuit breaker. I have always carefully stayed well below the rated 2,000 watts. This was last used for 10 hours powering my refrigerator/freezer (~750W), my Navian on-demand gas water heater igniter and recirculating pump (200W), and our internet cable modem and router (. The attached picture was taken while it was in actual use. The engine kicks on for 2-3 minutes once every 15-20 minutes. I use a shop vac hose to exhaust out and and away beneath the garage door. I am asking $400 for it all. It's very easy to connect to the 12V battery. In fact, it can be used with most any hybrid that has a 12V circuit fuse of more than 120A. The Generation 3 Prius has a 125A circuit fuse. Feel free to email me with any questions: [email protected]

That's a pretty high price for a used inverter. How much did you pay for it?

It's $319 on the Renogy webaite. The circuit breaker and modified wires cost extra. I'd leave it with the car, but I'd be afraid someone might push it, trying to get a sustained 2000W!

Leave it in the car till you're sure next owner doesn't want it? If I was buying your Gen3 I'd be happy to pay an extra $400 for the inverter installed as is, because I'd be paying for a ready to go solution for a home power outage. It's a huge feature other Prius won't come with. As long as new owner uses it for 1100w or less and they've been warned it'll be fine.

But sold separately and all the installation hassle, I'd only pay less than $200 for an inverter.

That's a good point. Should I include it in the ad, do you think? Or let it be a "discovery?"

I'd put it in the ad and include a link to your preferred "power your house with a prius" article or video...

Dang, that a real nice looking Prius! You've taken good care of it! You might want to list it in "Prius for sale" forum on here?

That car has the updated pistons and rings. That is a bigger deal than an inverter. For the price the inverter should be thrown in free.
