After doing a Seafoam Pistons soak 15k miles ago. It seems the Prius is still burning oil. My spark plugs seems very white and I assume this means lean burning. Also my last gas tank I put whole bottle of Seafoam in the gas tank to do a system fuel cleaning.

I've decided to Marvel Mystery Oil piston soak this time. I took photos of my Pistons before I dropped the MMO in and all 4 Pistons chamber is full of black carbon. I feel it's a bit much and wanted a second opinion.
    What do you guys think?
    Very dark?
    How should I clean it?
    Should I clean it?
How long should I leave MMO in the piston soak? I'm going to do 15 hours soak and then a oil change. 20220512_212336.jpg 20220512_200024.jpg Screenshot_20220512-193807_USB Camera.jpg Screenshot_20220512-194617_USB Camera.jpg

That corona stain on the porcelain is also a problem. Were the plugs loose?

I changed to Berryman B12 after a recommendation from reddit. It's now going to soak for 12 hours plus. I also cranked the engine back and forth to get Berryman between the rings. I also put the plugs back in while soaking so Berryman doesn't evaporate too fast. Hopefully this hack will work. Going to do a 3000 miles road trip next week report back in a month for results.

I haven't tried piston soaks yet. You sound like you've done it before and I don't know the procedure, but if you put Berrymans in the top end, maybe you want to follow with some MMO to lubricate the top end a little before you start up.

I did a cheap engine oil flush and ran a tank with Techron in it and I think it has helped reduce consumption, so I will flush again on the next oil change.

Just finished soaking Berryman B12 in the Prius. Lots of smoke and felt I did the best soak of MMO and then B12 to finish off this process. Cross our fingers and let hope my oil consumption drops from 1qt for 1000 Hwy miles. 20220513_170557.jpg 20220513_174141.jpg

1st impression after 200k miles tune up. The following maintenance done:
1st front brakes job 4 months ago.
2nd back brakes done last week.
    3rd New Air filter
    4th Berryman B12 piston soak.
    5th cleaned PVC valve
6th cleaned and gapped spark plugs
7th changed Tranny fluid with oem ws 4qt.
8th filled and top off all fluids.
9th New synthetic oil change and filter.

I took the Prius out on the highway, drove hard; fast and noticed improvements. More power and quick response pedal. She got better gas mpg and feels faster than before the tune up. I'm very please so far and will know if Berryman was successful on my drive next week. Putting down 3000 miles road trip.

I've heard that Berryman's B12 piston soak is a good way to to free up piston rings that are stuck with carbon deposits.

You did dump and replace the oil and filter after the piston soak, right?

I always put a layer of copper grease on the threads to prevent spark plugs from seizing.

Well it's too late now. Honestly it never created a problem for me. I would probably still apply a little film of copper grease anyways.

Let us know your oil consumption after your 3k mile road trip. My Prius also has had high oil consumption on highways and less hp. Recently changed spark plugs and PCV. Did oil change. Now Monitoring oil consumption. Will update in a months time

I am the guy from Reddit who recommended the B-12 Soak... you should at the very least see a significant improvement.

My oil consumption has remained significantly improved. It was cured completely during the first oil change after the Soak using Supertech full synthetic.

I burned about a qt initially and then it stayed at the same level on the dipstick for over 2,000 miles after the Soak. Plus the oil stayed completely clean and didn't become black at all... just slightly more golden during the entire OCI... even with the initial quart of consumption.

I then topped off with Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic (known to cause oil consumption in the Prius) and it started to consume oil and turn black immediately.

Then the Pennzoil burned off and it turned golden again and stopped consuming oil. Was really strange.

Now I'm consuming some oil again back on SuperTech but it is significantly improved still. I use to consume a quart every 1-2,000 miles and the oil would turn dark almost immediately. Now consumption is about a qt. Per 4,000 miles and the oil is still a nice golden color 4,000 miles in.

Going to try another B-12 soak at the next oil change and stay away from Pennzoil... which I think may have precipitated my consumption problems again.

Also note I did a MMO soak before thr B-12 and it did absolutely nothing. MMO is too weak. You need the strong solvents in B-12.

Hmm, no noticeable oil consumption in our 2011 Prius hatchback at 130k miles. But the oil is very dark at 5k OCI. Using Mobil 1 0w-20 full synthetic oil.

EGR circuit fully cleaned, intake manifold and EGR passages cleaned, OCC installed at 124K.

Did you replace the PCV valve or just clean it?
    Was it dirty?
