The dealer in Evans Ga quoted $5k to replace the battery in my parents' 2013 Prius. My dad has owned 3-4 Prius and has in past himself replaced the Gen 2 Battery. I have a Gen 3 Battery pack sitting in my garage right now, but I am in California. I received a quote from Toyota for $2k for a new battery but looking for someone who could help install it. My dad had neck surgery 2 years ago so he can't do that work anymore.

Was thinking of getting a refurb, and flying out and installing it, but I rather find someone trustworthy local.

    Any recommondations?

Evans looks to be about 80 minutes from me. What kind of time frame are you looking at? I could help you with much more reasonable options.

This option is something I have considered, even though I'm perfectly capable of restoring and rebuild my own battery packs..
Longer EV range and lighter weight is very attractive upgrade, but I could not agree with the last statement from their website because it is definitely not a cheaper option.. Screenshot_20220520-081047_Samsung%20Internet.jpeg

That seems like larceny; the only dealership in town? What does the battery itself "retail" for these days, through dealership, around $2000? Was there "complicating factors", or it's purely the battery?

Looks like there's at least two dealerships, between Evans and Augusta.

Evans online says the battery is $2000, but the install quote is $4500 + tax=$5000. According to them, you don't get a battery warranty unless they install it. KBB on their site says the average cost should be $2700 [Warranty Coverage for Hybrid and EV Batteries - Kelley Blue Book]

    "New EV Battery Cost
Most dealerships and some repair shops can install replacement hybrid or EV batteries. Battery costs have generally been declining in recent years but remain high.

For example, a Toyota dealership quoted us $2,700 to replace the hybrid battery on a 2017 Prius. A new battery would come with a 3-year warranty. Refurbished used batteries are available for about half that price."

I agree if you get a reasonable quote from Toyota and just want OEM replacement the total out-of-pocket cost could be lower. In my case having the battery shipped to Georgia and then finding someone to install it, will probably cost more than $2700. It would seem very reasonable if the battery is really only $2000 from Toyota that the dealership could get it installed for $2700 including tax (not the quoted $5000).

2~3 hours labour max, for battery swap? At $5k, that’s salvage engine swap territory.

Just as an update, ended up ordering the Li-ion batteries from https://projectlithium.com/products/prius-lithium-replacement-pack. Jack hooked me up with someone local to do the installation. However without me knowing when the batteries arrived my brother happen to come thru town and installed them in a couple of hours. Turned out the OEM battery had 2 or 3 cells where corrosion had chewed thru the nut and bolt to the point he had to cut them off to save the battery bus bar. Other than getting past that the install went fine and no error codes. Seems the old battery was fine other than the 2 cells with corrosion on them.

So the battery swap went well. The main issue was a connecting wire with corrosion on it and the corrosion on the bolt to one cell. The pack including the one bad cell is available. He is the resting voltages of the pack right now.

let me know if you are interested. The car is 2013 with 130k on it.
