Does an oil catch can help for a 2016 Prius 3? I saw the huge thread for the gen 3 but I heard that gen 4 has some redesigns that have made certain maintenance items on the gen 3 less needed. I'm not sure if this is completely correct.

My Prius has 40k miles on it so I haven't even checked the EGR or intake manifold at all.

I'm going to say yes. My 2016 Corolla S with a 1.8L engine does not have EGR but has a similar PCV system to our 2011 Prius hatchback.

The Corolla's intake still has oil accumulated in the intake manifold and coating the intake ports in the head.

My theory is that any oil that doesn't make it into the combustion chambers doesn't get turned into black crusty carbon, that can foul piston rings and valves.

Do check the intake manifold; if it's accumulating oil an oil catch can would likely help.

You might want to check The Car Care Nut on YouTube I seem to remember one of his videos addressing this question.
