How long can a drive with a full charge battery (Prius Prime XLE plug in 2022)

    We just got out Prius Prime XLE 2022 equip. We notice the battery goes very fast. How long hour and distance does the battery charge supposed to last before I need to charge again? Thank you!

    It depends if you’re travelling at city speeds or highway speeds. In the city, in the summer, probably 30-35 miles. On the highway in the summer, probably 20 miles.

    On the highway, it’s more efficient to use the engine. At 60mph, you can get close to 60mpg.

    If you are driving every day for more than 20 miles, then you will want/need to charge every day (or more conveniently every night with a charge schedule). If you are driving less frequently or shorter distance, you may not need to charge every day. You don't want to charge the battery and keep it full and the car sits for a long time (weeks and months).

    As pointed out by @Tideland Prius, the EV range depends on your driving style and environmental factors such as temperature. For me in the summertime, I can drive ~35 miles but in winter it diminishes to less than 20 miles all on rural country roads drive at 30-40mph.

    A lot of people think it is a misprint when they see that the EPA city MPG is higher than the highway MPG for the Prius. Just the opposite of what they are used to seeing. The reason being that in the city, stop and go kills the mpg for conventional gasoline cars, but with a hybrid, much of that energy is recovered by regeneration rather than being dissipated in friction brakes. OTOH, on the highway, air resistance plays a much larger roll, and that is a pure loss.

    Just like a gas tank, the faster you go, the faster the battery depletes. Asking the range of the battery is like asking, "How big is a child?" My range is anywhere from 20-33 miles. My commute is 26 miles at 45-50 mph and takes about 45 minutes. I usually have a couple miles left at my destination. If I used the battery to drive the interstate at 70-75, I'd probably be well under 20 miles and it would last maybe 15-20 minutes. You'll soon learn the best way to leverage the EV range for reduced gas usage. Right now, I'm just under a half tank after 2,100+ miles.

    if you just got it the car is learning your driving style still. The battery range will adjust based on your previous driving habits.
    Warm temps increase range (to an extent) and cold temps (below 45 or 50) will hurt range.
    Personally right now I've been getting roughly 35-42 miles range per charge. Depending on if i'm coming from or going to work

    My car has been running for three years, at 40000 miles. Now I can only drive 20 miles on pure electricity, and the battery has decayed by 1/3

    First a little math. If you have a 2017 model, it has been running for five years unless it was in storage for two years. Toyota usually says it will go 25 miles on a battery charge. If it has decayed to only 20 miles, that is a 20% decay, not 33%. I also have a 2017 model. We have been having cool weather up here and it had been getting about 25 miles per charge. It was in the 70s yesterday and I got 28.7 miles. I expect that it will approach 30 miles as the weather warms up.
