One of those voltage monitors I mentioned in post #57 would show it fluctuating as it goes from charging to just maintaining. When I first start my Prime, it reads 14.1. After a while, it drops to 12.X. Then it goes back to 14. Back and forth as necessary. Constantly forcing 14 volts into the battery would heat it unnecessarily.

Normal, I find my Veepeak code reader allows me a customizable dash . Tachometer, battery temp, fan speed, state of charge Both batteries. Or pair if cells. O2 sensors. Basically anything you want. It’s been one of my favorite accessories for under $50

It’s called Car Scanner it’s the one Veepeak made to go with their reader.

I love the acceleration test now that I’ve got a lithium battery

Any chance you got some before and after acceleration charts to document the performance improvement from your Lithium pack? I've found that with https://projectlithium.com/?ref=9qLPw packs the power you start with holds steady all the way up to too fast, but with NiMH the power you start with quickly drops off well before you get going too fast.

I recently got a 2009 Prius with 86k miles. The first thing I did was buy accessories!

I recently bought a 2006 Prius with about 139k miles for just under $7k. My other car is a 2009 Highlander which I love despite it being a real gas hog (13mpg in the city, max. 25 mpg highway). I have had the Prius only a week and am 78 and not in the greatest of health. You might wonder why I would commit such a mad act. Well, I am or used to be a techie and a DIY'er so it's my last play toy before I check out of this miserable orb. When I am convinced of the Pruis's reliability, I will likely sell the Highlander. My wife doesn't or shouldn't drive anymore for health reasons.

The problem I am having currently is the need to replace the broken liftgate panel and replace it with a metal version. The liftgate doesn't work at all so I am going to have to troubleshoot it and replace the latching mechanism if necessary. My fault for not doing a thorough enough inspection. I did have a pre-purchase inspection by a mechanic but he didn't catch that problem. He did recommend immediate front brake replacement. I intend to do other maintenance (oil change to start with, maybe plugs) as the dealer did not have any detailed maintenance records other than the Carfax. I expect that I will need to replace the Hybrid battery soon but it seems to fine right now. I am interested in upgrading to a Li-ION battery if it's not too expensive. I am in no condition to do it myself, although it doesn't look too tough a job to do.

Why did I buy a 2nd Gen. Prius? I would have preferred a newer model but they are a little too pricey for a retiree. In 2006, I recommended to my old College buddy who needed a new car that he should consider a Prius. He bought one and it now has 315k miles on it. I figure that is a good enough road test. I also recommended a Prius to my daughter who recently bought a 2014 Prius with 160k miles at a reasonable price. She had to get one injector replaced but so far, so good. I wouldn't recommend a high mileage Prius for anyone not mechanically inclined as they are very complicated beasts and need TLC, but well worth the effort required.
