I know that when it's in a navigation, speed limit will be displayed. Is it possible to always display the speed limit? It's for 2017 prius prime premium.
    Thank you.

I don't think you can display the speed limit info without using the navigation mode. In newer model PPs (after 2021), the new TSS 2.0 includes the Road Sign Assist (RSA) which will keep the speed limit info on either on the split MID display or on HUD (if equipped). Not on 2017 models.

In older models (like my 2017) , I think the speed limit info is built into the navigation data, along with the obsolete map info. In the newer models (with TSS 2.0), the camera visually detects speed limit signs.

Maybe in the UK models. But for the US models, RSA did not become standard until TSS 2.0 in 2021 or newer on PP. On OPs 2017 PP there was no RSA.

Can you or someone with older PP show me where the speed limit is displayed? I don't remember where the speed limit was displayed in the pre2021 PP. I had 2017 PP Premium with navi and 2020 PP LE without navi, but I can't remember if the 2017 PP Premium had the speed limit displayed on the 11.6" screen while using the navi. Similarly, I don't know if my current 2021 PP Limited with navi is displaying the speed limit on the 11.6" screen while using the navi. I don't use in-car navi, and on m 2021 PP, RSA is disabled in order to use the split screen display for the current mpg and miles/kWh bars.

Bizarre, it was standard for all gen4 here 2016 onwards. Admittedly switch offable until 2020 when it became mandatory on startup

I guess, the word "mandatory" is the key for Toyota to push the RSA introduction earlier in your country. With no such push to change the law in the US, there was no need to hurry. And RSA is the owner selectable feature in TSS2.0 vehicles. I have had it turned off since the first day I purchased the car. No use for me and many others. Plus the poor implementation on the PP made it totally useless if the split-screen MID is needed. So, when did you see the first cars with TPMS in your country? The TPMS became mandated in the US in 2007, but I had TPMS standard on our 2005 Toyota.

If you have the HSI on the MID, cursor to the right one place and it will show the compass heading and the speed limit if the car knows the speed limit. Many times it doesn't. At least on my '17 Prime Premium.

I don't remember seeing the speed limit displayed on the MID on my 2017 PP Premium, but I never really looked for it either. The screen with the compass was never shown on my MID, so I must have missed it. Dies it show the speed limit regardless of the nav being used or nor? I wonder if my 2020 PP LE which had no built-in nav ever showed the speed limit? On my current 2021 PP Limited, the speed limit can be displayed on HUD or on the split screen location using the RSA, but I have to check to see if the compass MID screen also shows the speed limit.

Not sure exactly what you mean by "using" the nav. The map is on the 11.6" display because there's no way to turn it off without turning off the whole display. But I never set a destination and use it like a Garmin. Tampa is growing so fast that it seems like half our streets aren't even in the car's database.

I meant actually putting destination in the navi, such that navi is directing you to drive somewhere. But, from your description, the car seems to show the speed limit on the MID without a destination. As I said, I have never seen a speed limit showing on the MID of my 2017 PP Premium. But I never really kept my MID on that screen long enough to check if it ever showed the speed limit when known on the map.

I will have to check what that screen shows on my 2021 PP Ltd next time I drive. And that makes me wonder what my previous 2020 PP LE showed on that screen for it had no built-in navi nor TSS 2.0 with RSA.

That's correct. I almost never set a destination, but most times the speed limit is on the compass one click to the right of the HSI. I find it handy when I turn onto a street and am too busy dealing with erratic drivers to check road signs till after I've passed the speed limit sign.

On my 2017, I think that it shows up in the Heads Up Display (HUD), which is only on the Advanced, as I recall.

Yes, on my 2021 PP, HUD can be set to show the speed limit, but as @jerrymildred commented above, it seems even in early model PP without HUD, the speed limit can be shown on the MID. But I admit that I don't remember seeing it on the MID in any of the PP models I have owned so far.

I looked at this in my US 2021 XLE, and my compass screen in the MID did not show speed limit, but it might be because I have road sign assist turned on so the speed limit is already always showing on the MID screen.

    Hi all,
Just figured it out. On my 2017 PP Premium, just switch your HUD to compass, then the speed limit will be displayed when the car is moving. And it also becomes red when you are speeding. Maybe the engineers think it's kind of neat, but it does not make any sense to me... So just for future references.

I think you mean switch the MID to compass. The Premium doesn't have a heads up display. ;)

It's just one click to the right of the HSI display and the HSI is much more important to me than the speed limit display, I keep it on HSI and just click over there to check the speed limit from time to time. Often as not, though, it's blank. It's probably better in older areas, but it seems like almost everything in our area is way newer than the maps in my 2017.
