2017 Prius Two, Hypersonic Red. Hi! Well, I've got my own issue. 3 days ago I was driving my car and after making 3 stop and goes and now waiting at a stop light my car failed to move after stepping on the accelerator, it just hesitated, made a engine noise and inched along the intersection, thankfully not a busy one, I checked to make sure the car was in drive, even flicked the gear knob into drive a few times and still nothing, then halfway across the intersection at a very slow speed the car just started to go. At the next red light, hoping this was just a one time weirdness, the light turned green and nothing again, with cars behind me honking and all. Of course didn't make the green light and while waiting I turned the car off and back on, on the green light, I stepped on the accelerator and the car went forward, but it felt very rough, like the engine was moving it, from a low speed, the car had been shaking a bit, the engine sounded rough, I made it to work and after I just didn't feel the car sounded right. Called the dealer I bought it from and they advised I tow it in. I did and after they had it for two days, could not replicate it, drove it around and nothing again. They had never seen anything like it. The diagnostic tests showed nothing except a dip on the 12 volt battery. The final outcome was this...a task case was filed with Toyota, I had spoke to the service manager about this, saying I had read online other owners having the same issue, Toyota told the dealer that yes, they had heard from other owners, apparently they were plugged in by computer watching all the diagnostic tests being done. Toyota advised that the 12v battery be changed and that a service update be done. In all the reading I had done I had read about the same situation happening to another car and that there had been a Service Bulletin #T-SB-0241-17 issued applicable to 2016/17 Prius's. I told them about this and was told my car fell out of the series of numbers that this bulletin was for. But from what I was told Toyota said to do this update and that they had advised other cars to have the same thing done and they hadn't heard anything back after this has been done. I drove the car today and it seemed fine. I'm going to start my own thread on this matter and write Toyota as well, maybe even the NHTSA. I understand some have. If anyone has anything more to add, I'd appreciate this. This whole thing was very unsettling to me, this car hasn't given me any problems at all in the two years I've owned it. I had to pay part of the towing since I live outside the covered area to my dealer who have been very nice and accommodating to me. I get some relief knowing this isn't an isolated incidence but others are having this same problem. But of course my warranty is coming to an end but have been assured that this would be covered and THANKFULLY I did get the extended warranty, I never have got one before but was talked into it by a friend.

Yes, I've read about at least 2 other incidents of this in PriusChat - do a search and hopefully you'll find it. I can't recall what eventuated either time, sorry.

I was idling in maintenance mode and noticed that my gas pedal was completely unresponsive. I turned the car off, restarted in maintenance mode again and the pedal worked fine.

I recently replaced the accelerator pedal to try and solve an issue that I noticed where there seemed to be a dead spot in the pedal. I only noticed the dead spot when I was in maintenance mode revving the engine up. The issue did not go away after I replaced the accelerator pedal. There are no dtcs currently.

You need to take it into the dealership and make sure you've got the latest software revisions. As noted above there are known intermittent software glitches. As you noticed, that dead spot in maintenance mode was probably a software glitch - not a hardware issue; otherwise the replacement part should've fixed it...

FWIW: I wouldn't have replaced that pedal; if I only experienced this issue in maintenance mode. A hardware failure would've presented itself in any mode your in. (ie. regular drive mode).

    Hope this helps...

Wondering - why you were in Maintenence Mode? Are you experiencing a problem in normal?

I had the exactly same problem that you had on last Thursday when I drove back from SF. I brought my car to dealer this morning and show them the article T-SB-0241-17, but they won't listen to me and insisted I must pay $270 for them to diagnosis this problem. They couldn't find anything wrong except my 12Volt battery failed their test. I know this is not the root cause of this problem. They would not do anything except asking me to replace my 12 Volt battery. I couldn't convince them to "Flash reprogram the HV ECU" as T-SB-0241-17 instructed. Have the same problem happened to your Prius again ?
