DIY BSM blind spot Monitoring system Prius prime

    disappointed that only limited has bsm -
    I’ve added aftermarket Blindspot monitoring system by pioneer. They have a few I picked the license plate adapter version.

    Works well enough. I haven’t yet tested cross traffic feature but assume it’s just as good.

    The install is similar to rear dash cam - if you are willing and capable.

    tricky parts were connecting to safe power source, routing cable from device into cabin, identifying rear and left right signals. Took photos to show what I did.

    Correction it reverse wiring… it’s the red wire. There are two (probably left and right reverse lights).

    However if you tap the striped wire… there is no signal but if you disconnect that wire- it will disable the rear lights, so that’s why I thought it was rear light… not sure what exactly it does.

    I'm curious if one could go out and buy the OEM part for Toyota BSM and then add it to the Prius Prime LE/XLE and TSS2.0 will happily accept it without any fuss. I guess the other thing is figuring out how to calibrate it but as long as the lower trims can accept the OEM part, that's already pretty nice. Also would have to buy the sideview mirrors with the BSM indicator lights as well.
