My 2009 Prius Touring MFD went out so I found one with the same part number on eBay. Everything works except the navigation screen, maintenance screen, and calendar. I only get multiple lines across the screen with those. I advised the seller of the problem and he asked if I had reprogrammed it to my car. He provided the vin # of the car it was removed from if needed. Is that necessary and if so, how is it done? Thanks in advance for any info.

Maybe ask the seller what he meant.
Wonder if disconnecting the 12v battery then reconnecting it would reboot the mfd?

From what I've been able to find out since my original post there isn't an actual process for "reprogramming" the MFD on a gen 2 Prius. However, the thought of disconnecting the 12v battery as a reset is a good idea. I had already disconnected it as a safety precaution when removing my original unit so the eBay unit was just defective. I sent my original one to UpFix in Georgia for repair ($200) and am hoping for the best. The eBay seller was making a desperate attempt to drag out the inevitable, a full refund via eBay's buyer guarantee which is finally underway.

There should be no programming required. You probably have received a defective unit and found the reason it was removed from the original car.

I feel confident that you are absolutely correct. Using eBay is a roll of the dice and it proved inefficient this time. I'm hopeful that UpFix will work out.

UpFix repaired my original and it works like new again. Fast turnaround and good communication during the process. As far as the one I bought used on Ebay, the buyer protection policy was the only way I got my refund which took over three weeks from the time of the purchase. The seller had a 100% positive feedback rating but that's about to change.

I'm curious, too. Did you get the refund OK and get your original back from repair.

And I can also confirm that no programming is needed. I've replaced several Gen 2 MFDs. Just match the part number, as you already did. (There are a few that can be swapped, but I can't tell you off the top of my head which ones.)

UpFix did a great job and kept in communication with me throughout the process. I got it back quickly and it functions almost better than new. The eBay seller basically had an attitude so I had to use the eBay buyer guarantee to get my money back. He had a 100% positive feedback but that's about to change.

I just took the display out of my car and sent it off to AutoBeYours. They're a little more expensive than UpFix but they have a very good reputation. This is the first time I've ever taken a part out of my car and sent it away to have it fixed, so I'm a bit nervous about that, but hoping everything goes well.

Steve at AutoBeYours responded to my e-mail where I said I was sending him the display. It’s a good start.

    TImeline so far:
Wednesday 7/13 took display out of car and mailed it via USPS Priority Mail to AutoBeYours
Saturday 7/16 USPS tracking says it arrived
Tuesday 7/19 I had not received an invoice so I e-mailed Steve to make sure the display arrived. He E-mailed me back, confirmed he got the display, and sent me the invoice. I paid the invoice.
Thursday 7/21 I got an e-mail with tracking information to get the display back

Monday 7/25 Repaired multifunction display arrived and I put it back in the car. It works perfectly well now.

AutoBeYours is highly recommended. 12 days from start to finish, $299 cost (plus $20 postage, $3 for a box and bubble wrap), and the display now is back to full functionality. Well done to Steve & crew!

I recently used upfix and am disappointed. While they repaired and returned in a timely manner, the glass is very milky, not clear like the original which makes it hard to view in the sun. When I contacted them, they said they would change it, but unfortunately I paid my mechanic $150 to remove and install and they won't over that cost. They should have just used the right glass to start.
