Had the following codes come up today as I was out for a drive

P2023 Battery Block 13 becomes weak
Had this under Confirmed Trouble Code and 1 Pending Trouble Code
1 Radar or Hybrid Control Code
P3000 Status: CURRENT/HISTORY- Battery Control System

My 2009 Prius has 231030 miles and I installed a New Prius Battery around 170000. I am planning on going to Missouri from Pennsylvania in a few days, what advice can you all give me? Thank you all in advance.n

It was installed on Nov 20 2019 and it is from New Prius Batteries LLC. Sorry about the lack of information. I guess it wasn’t a “New Prius” battery but I bought it from that company.

wow interesting only 3 years old. You should reach out to them and see what they can do for you. It seems like a failed module

To elaborate, I had to replace the MAF sensor recently and was driving in 88 degree heat this afternoon without the air on and I got the red triangle, VSC and check engine light on the dash. Along with the exclamation point inside of the circle. Drove around four miles home and posted soon after.

I have seen them an email and am awaiting a response. I think it was 61000 miles or less. This is really cramping my plans for vacation.

That's the unfortunate thing you'll face when you go away from OEM quality. These aftermarket batteries will not have the same quality as the original OEM which normally last 10+ years

At the time I could not justify the cost. I guess I mark it down under lessons learned? I can say that I have been extremely pleased with them so far. What stinks is that we were leaving on Sunday. I guess the WWI memorial and museum along with War Remains can wait.

The reviews on this product has been very positive but there is no word out on the longevity of this product. I think you're the first I've read on the failure of this new battery. I think 2019 was about the time this product first sold.

AHH I was the Guinea pig, well I guess that is fine. Not bad mouthing as they haven’t been given time to respond. I know during install the emails between us were answered quickly I should not complain. The car is my favorite with 42 mpg and a lead foot I am happy

As always the quality of material defines its success... Project Lithium is 7 years into research in their aftermarket packs and still no issues with earlier failure than OEM. And when you use battery chemistry 1/4 century newer than Toyota & New Prius Battery uses you can expect a great deal of performance improvements. Just one of dozens of examples is NiMH is rated for 700 to 1000 cycles and LiFePo4 is rated for 5K cycles.

I think Project Lithium is even newer than NPB and it costs more than proven reliable OEM. Not sure that's a great deal. And who has actually gone through and used up a new replacement OEM battery? I think by the time the 2nd battery fails, the car would be a complete mess inside and out, nobody would want it after that. No need to invest into a 3rd battery at the point.

Actually the days of OEM replacement prices being less than Project Lithium are ending... I've been able to sell these packs for that reason alone. As in Florida briefly got down got down to $1400 range for OEM and $1600 range was common for past few years, but when I checked a couple months back in PNW the Portland area were out of stock with price of $2K and in Western Washington Stealerships with a pack in stock were $2500 to $4K range. Meanwhile Project Lithium went from $2100 up to $2300, or at least once they're back in stock. And by then how many back orders for OEM packs will there be? Two months ago a Toyota Stealership told me he was only seeing 5 remaining OEM packs in US warehouses...

While I am interested in the Project Lithium due to lack of availability, for right now I am thinking NPB is my best option. OEM is not readily available from what I have found. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the codes and if they could have been caused by it being one of the hottest days of the year in my area and my not having the AC on. Normally I run the AC constantly when it is over 70 degrees.

I will be the one to report on that in about 300,000 mi My first battery made 20 years and 200 30 or 40,000. So I'm expecting this replacement to do about the same with minimal for us and if it does my car will be at about $650,000 about when it fails and I'll let you know what I'm going to do then probably not much as I should probably not be driving we will see we will see

Running the AC can help cool the battery but if it's a well engineered battery, a little heat shouldn't affect it when it's only 3 years old. You might just be the lucky one to pick up one with a faulty module. It can happen, but if many users start having this problem, then it might just be a design/quality issue with the battery itself.

Hopefully I was the only one with this problem. I like the interactions between myself and the company well enough that I almost placed an order from the car when I saw the dash light up. It is with more time passing that I allow myself to get irritated about it.

In my experience the weak point in cylindrical NiMH modules is how the cells are connected to each other. I once was reconditioning a really early in the production run of after market Honda pack made by Bumble Bee battery in Portland, OR and the cells were connected to each other by a technique that cause two modules to explode during discharge because that connection failed. I wasn't injured, but if I had been near them when they exploded I could of been.
