I'm working on a 2006 for a friend. It quit on him about 6 months ago and the car sat. I got no useful info from him except the instrument panel had quit (worked sometimes) at some time in the past. The codes said bad hybrid battery so he brought me a rebuilt one and I installed it. The 12v battery was shot so I replaced it. I also did the capacitor fix and got the instrument cluster to come on. Before replacing the HV battery and fixing the cluster it would shift into drive and reverse but now it will not. It will go from park to neutral. All the warning lights are on except for the red triangle. I'm guessing this is just a check it does before going ready which it never does. The replacement HV battery made that bad HV battery code go away. I upgraded my scanner to read the Prius codes and it had about 15 set. I cleared those and the only 2 that have come back are the A/C ok and later A/C sun load error. I checked the brake switch with my scanner and it sees it turn off and on like it should. What next?

Are you sure the 12v battery and hv battery are good? Did you LOCK the orange interlock when you installed it back into the car?

I'm sure the 12v is good. I don't know about the HV except the scanner says it is ok and it is a fresh "reman". There are no codes now (I cleared them) except something about a passenger side A/C heat load sensor. Yes the orange fuse/disconnect is latched. I'm pretty sure that can't be done wrong. The lever pulls it in when latching.

You'd be surprised how many people do not do step 3 correctly.

A fresh "reman" is a spin on "a collection of random old modules that haven't failed yet".

I'll take it back apart and check. The lever seemed to pull in like it should but it is worth a look. Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by "take apart" – you only need to take the floor board and the storage tray out to get to the safety interlock.

I took the covers off so I could verify the fuse was passing voltage to the solenoids. It is. I'm getting 210V on the hot side of the solenoids. The negative to the front solenoid. Is that correct? Thanks!

Do you mean "relays?" Solenoids control the flow of liquids or gasses.

If you take the plastic covers off the relay terminals with the car in "READY," those terminals should read the same as the ones on the battery side. Don't forget to put the plastic shields back on.

If it won't go into READY, the relays will not close and the terminals on the car side will remain dead. Need to find out why it won't go to READY.

That is the issue. I don't know how to figure out why it won't go ready.
I turned it off and on a few times and suddenly it started working. Tried it about half a dozen more times and it still works. The only lights on now are check engine and maintenance required. Scanner still only shows an A/C code. Will that turn on the check engine light?
I disconnected the hybrid battery and reconnected it and now the check engine light is off and the previously inoperable fuel gauge works. ??? Gremlins.
