I've got a family member there with an issue that's probably as simple as a jump, or replacing the 12 V, only the mechanic who came out said it was probably "the alternator", and so probably isn't the right person for the job.

Back when the same car had the usual obvious pump/AM2 magic smoke issue, I drove up and swapped pumps myself, but that's a long way to drive for every little problem. It would be nice to find someone local.

If 12v related, they might test it with a 12v voltage monitor that you plug into the lighter. Easier than using a multi-meter for some.

After trying to jump it, AAA may offer a 12v replacement, though not all areas offer that service. Call to confirm.

Does it need to be a mobile mechanic, or can it be towed to a shop?

Ask jay is he knows of a mobile mechanic locally : https://pontiacautorepairs.com/

This mobile outfit may service Pontiac : https://mobileautorepairpros.com/mi/onsite-mechanic-detroit/

This portal claims to service Pontiac, see if there is a fit : Mobile Mechanic and Auto Repair in Pontiac MI | Wrench

Service/warranty seems above par, but isn't currently offered in that area, maybe the vehicle can be towed to a nearby relative/friend house in a supported service area : Best Mobile Mechanic in Pontiac, MI - Book Auto Repairs Online

Business not claimed, but could still exist : Mc Neal Mobile Automotive Repair | 146 Beach Street Pontiac, MI

Not sure if they use nextdoor (we don't), but there could be a neighbor that can help, or that could recommend someone.

Any reason why members haven't compiled a Prius mechanic database?

first you have to ask a mod if they will pin it. a lot of loose threads here should be pinned, and a lot of pinned threads should be loosed

Yeah, MW has a great mechanic, not sure how mobile, but the price is right and they do quality work.

Because most mechanics are scared of high voltage electricity and are too closed-minded to learn new things... But they're out there if you look long enough. I wonder if this was done on PriusChat long ago and we could update it?

It's still there somewhere... You're the one to find it for us @bisco

Clear your schedule and start looking all day every day till you find it for us please! :)

Was the issue figured out, or was a local mechanic found?

It progressed to a reverse-jump situation, after which I made a road trip and replaced the fuse link.
