    Hi all,

onc again this car proved to be an amazing car this morning. I was on a busy road at a stop light. A truck wasn't paying attention and hit me which caused me to hit the car in front of me. Overall minimal amount of damage to all three cars.
I am still wondering how a hole in my rear bumper appeared as though i backed into a trailer hitch. I can't open the hatch and the front bumper has more scratches then anything else.

Anyone in the greater Boston area have a recommendation to a good body shop? The appraiser is coming on Friday. I don't expect the car to e totaled.

    ouch, sorry to hear it!

i've never had much luck with body shops. see if your insco has a list of certified shops that they guarantee they will make right if there are any problems. that's how mine (amica) does it.

Got rear ended a few weeks ago. Guy was going maybe 10.
Got out and looked, a couple tiny dots where the bolts of his front license plate indented the plastic slightly.
Bumper wasn't misaligned from the rear quarter panel mounting areas at all.
My car is 14 years old and has a ton of dings and scrapes, just shook hands and told him not to worry about it.
Obviously if some sheet metal had bent or the corners of the rear bumper had popped off the quarter panels I would of made a claim.

Been hit in the back multiple times just sitting at the light. All not bad enough to misalign the hatch though just bumper skins.

    Pictures please.

It looks like damage is just to the bumper covers, and a front lower trim piece.
I don't know why you can't open the rear hatch. Maybe the cover is pushed against the hatch (hard to tell in the picture).
Without good clear multi-angle chassis underneath photos, it's hard to say if any sheet-metal/supports where "tweaked" (pushed in).

If the insurance pays, go to:
    Wellsley Toyota.
They are right on RT3. Easy to get to. Also, semi-easy to drive right by, since they don't have a large swath of RT3 frontage.

Fwiw, dealerships now are massively different than even a few years ago.
Ever heard of Jordan's Furniture, of Bernie&Phyls' ? (for others: those are two very well known "local" furniture stores)
Well, like ?75%-90%? of dealerships today, those furniture stores are owned by huge National chains.

With big chain-owned Dealerships, things are much worse.
In the big chain-owned dealerships, people are there only as long as they are top money makers.
And, as GM's quality/build strategy has shown for the past 3+ decades, "there's a new sucker born every minute".

The owner of Wellsley Toyota has only two local dealerships.
Wellsley Toyota has top customer ratings for many many years.
They are not part of some mega-chain.

I got my car about two months ago.
Wellsley Toyota was the only Mass dealership that I found, that was selling cars at MSRP, no required dealer markup or BS add-ons (like nitrogen filled tires, some dealership warranty, etc).

Imho, go there, and check them out.
If they don't WOW you, then go somewhere else.

For my new Prius, I had 4 down payments pending at different dealerships, I talked in person to over a dozen (MA, CT, & NH), and I talked to maybe 2 dozen over the phone. (That is what it took to get the car that *I* wanted). Toyota builds vehicles, and then allocates them. I even turned down 2 vehicles that arrived sooner at other dealerships, because I really wanted to go with Wellsley Toyota.

Back on track, I can honestly say that my pre-sales experience at Wellsley Toyota, was FAR FAR better than any other dealership - by miles!
Of course, I can't compare various sales experiences. Imho, the Tesla (almost Walmart-like) sales experience does seem like it would nicer. But, I did want to talk to the finance person, to get first-hand, in person, verification on different post-sales packages. I knew ~98% of all of the info from the web.

    Good Luck!

Fwiw, as can be seen by my license plate holder, I did get my Prius Prime at Wellsley Toyota. :)
Btw, a ChargePoint account is needed to use the "free chargers" at the $9/day flat-rate  Alewife parking garage.

That's not bad at all. Just the bumper. I can see the bumper has been squeezed up into the hatch bottom and its now blocking the hatch. Just push down on the bumper where the hatch is hitting it the hatch will open.

    New bumper
New bumper absorber probably since it may have a hole punched in it.
    2 Bumper mounting clips
Lost of plastic rivets along the bottom. Lots and lots.
    Paint.

Body shop will try to pull a fast one on you and use a cheapo eBay bumper which is super flimsy. The stock bumper is pretty stout comparatively. But I looked at Olathe Toyota parts online and there site says NOT Available on the bumper so you may have to use the cheapo anyway if its not being stocked anymore or long wait time.

    Today's prices for repair: $3000.

Easier to refinish the OEM bumper instead of taking a chance using a poorly fitting aftermarket bumper. Aftermarket bumper would need to be painted in any event.

YOu are correct on the damage as per the adjuster. Se said after market but I know which junk yards have this car in my color. Also one of the places that works on my car usually has spare parts in my color. I can call them to see what they have.

I have a relationship with a autobody shop. They fixed my mini van and we got some parts from the junk yard instead of after market.

The accident happened down the street from Wellesley Toyota lol

Sorry to see that....I hope the knucklehead in the pickup truck had insurance that'll take care of you. Wherever you bring it, they'll more-than-likely, only use Toyota OEM NEW parts but, just in case, make sure to ask them.

A friend of mine wants a corolla hybrid. There were only 2 dealerships in New England that had one. Wellesley was one of them. He lives in RI. They told him they would not sell to him because he lived out of state.

    That's correct.
Wellesley Toyota sells mainly to people that are "local" (?~~15+miles?).
For many reasons, a Dealership deciding to not sell across State lines, is a common and accepted practice.
I don't know how anti-discriminatory laws would pertain to a Dealership not selling to someone in the same State. In Mass, North Adams would be around the farthest away at ~100miles. However, Calf is over 700miles long.

Dealerships make the most revenue from the service center (~70%+). Next is finance, last is profit on a vehicle sale.
Wellesley Toyota is a very service oriented dealership. They're also in a high income area, that is also mainly 25+/family focused - unlike the younger Boston, etc populations.
Most of their customers get new vehicles every 2-5 years. That's because of the average income in that area, and the professions that many of those people are in (law, finance, medical, etc).
I'm easily an outlier. I keep my cars a long time.
I was very fortunate that Wellesley Toyota does not prioritize allotment allocations.
Today, with the very limited allotments, many (?most?) dealerships will prioritize for their returned customers, and the higher profit vehicles.

For others not familiar with the area:
(Btw, Dover is next to Wellesley.)

There’s a new wealthiest place in Mass., census data shows
Boston Business Journal Nov 13, 2020

When it comes to the wealthiest places in Massachusetts, a new town can claim top dollar, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.

Dover has the highest estimated median household income in the Bay State, at $212,574. The data, the most recent available from the Census Bureau, measures estimated 2018 income in “census-designated places.”

Last year, the data showed that Wellesley was the wealthiest place in Massachusetts. Now, with an estimated median household income of $188,908, Wellesley is in second place behind Dover.

Yes best shot is used oem bumper even if it has alot of scratches. Most G2's in junk yards my area are picked clean. pretty popular car.

Or don't fix it at all. The Prius Gen 2 is a magnet for rear end hits. Odds are real good you'll get hit again.

    For any other lurkers:

The vertical brake light is harder to see for some people I guess. I got hit 3 times. Many many rear end posts on this site. Small car. Once for me twice with the wife.

I installed a motorcycle headlight light blinker kit ($20) in the top of the hatch brake light the center brake light. It blinks 4 times every time you hit the brakes then stayed on as normal. The brakes on each end worked normally but that fast blinking high center light was impossible to miss. Really noticeable at night. Almost looks like an emergency light for a second. Didn't get hit for the next 8 years.

In fact I have installed one in every car since. If I'm out late at night stopped at a light and see a car coming at me fast from behind Ill just hit the brake pedal once.people

Super bright blinking center brake light in addition to normal side brake lights. Lots of red lights!

The new kits are even cooler they strobe 3 times then flash 3 times adjustable speed then stay on. The old kits were just selectable from 1 to 5 rapid blinks.

Its ridiculously easy on a prius G2 just take the little cover off the back of the hatch. Butt splice 2 wires.
