Where should I post my question about warning lights? Not on PriusChat enough to navigate it well.

    Basically,
Recently slammed hard on breaks (to avoid death), few miles later these lights came on dash.
    Safety Alert (Red caution symbol)
    Check engine
    Brake System ( ! )
And on the display screen a Hybrid system warning symbol.

The next time I turn it on, all lights are the same except the Brake System light is gone and the Maintenance Required light is on. PXL_20220731_000407645.jpg PXL_20220731_000403223.jpg PXL_20220731_144325175.jpg

Basically, when there are warning lights being displayed, there will be obd2 codes stored in the ECUs (computers), retrieving these stored codes would be the first step in diagnosing or repairing the vehicle. Find a hybrid compatible obd2 scanner and post the codes in this thread.
Unlikely. The codes are still being stored, even if you no longer have the warning lights.

How many times have you power cycled the vehicle since your near death experience?

    Yup....

Kinda weird, because, as far as I know, the maintenance required light has only one job on a Gen 2. Starts blinking for about 8 seconds once the car has gone 4500 miles since last time it was reset, and turns solid at the 5000 mile point. It's just an oil change reminder. And it will stay solid until the reset procedure is performed.

It would be interesting if you could get codes read by techstream to see what is in there under historical.

Ok I'll look into scanners. When you say "power cycled" I assume you mean started the car? I did that 6 times, all in one day after the initial warning.

Good to know about the maintenance required light. Sounds like I NEED to get a scanner. Do I need to get Techscreen as well or can I bring my car somewhere that can do it for me?

You need to look in this list under scanners or OBD2 readers and see what everybody's using there's a whole bunch of them there's a whole bunch of them they don't like a few they do tech stream is the Toyota dealer software. That you can buy hacked versions of and run on a Windows computer it's all over the internet you can call it stealing if you want to No one seems to be coming after anybody about it You're working on cars that are 20 years old so we'll see how that goes legally sounds good to me I use tech stream. My girlfriend uses Dr Prius and a Bluetooth OBD2 dongle seems to work fairly well pick your poison

Ok I'll research Dr Prius & Bluetooth OBD2. Thanks for the recommendation.

I've been using Autel MaxiAP dongle, it's cheap and doesn't require a laptop. iPhone and Android compatible. I recently switch to Xtool A30D since I have multiple brands/cars and Autel requires you to pay license every year for each brand (you have only 1 brand lifetime-free) I throw away my old windows laptop with tech stream (mini VCI) since those 2 dongles can do the job.

Hello, I bought the OBD2 scanner and can't get it to connect with my phone. It should work with my Android but I don't know which program is best. Any suggestions?

I would also check your oil level. Hard breaking can sometimes give you a very quick RTOD for a split second. Make sure your oil level is good and all coolant and break fluids are topped off as well. Then check for codes. I use an iPhone SE and the Carista ODB reader and the paid version of Dr Prius

I did get the original problem fixed. I had my inverter cooling pump replaced & got an oil change (it was almost empty).

New problem: The car won't always start, it usually has no response when I try to. No lights, no beeping anywhere. Sometimes I can start it & there is not problem. Other times I try to start it, the car goes in neutral, almost all the warning lights appear.

I'm trying to find the fault codes with my OBD2 & Torque Lite. But no codes pop up.

I never payed attention to which way I put the key in. I just put it in the slot, buttons facing up & is started normally with beeps and all. No warning lights on. After I power off and remove the key, an orange car with a key lights up the dashboard. It blinks.

The car doesn't care whether the buttons are up or down.
Torque Lite will be inadequate for anything but the most basic of engine codes. See the Gen 2 OBD app review thread at the top of the Gen 2 Prius Technical Discussion forum for some pointers on suitable apps to use to read codes.

So I think it's a computer issue. Sometimes it doesn't start right away or when I turn it off it goes into neutral and makes different lights come on. Sometimes it makes sounds behind the disc loader. And the clock will go back to 1:00.

Just now it won't start back up. No lights or anything. Even when I open my door. Send help!

It sounds like your 12V battery is bad. How old is your battery?

Y'ALL!!! We figured it out. It's so stupid.

My Dad looked at the 12v battery & noticed the post was loose. He checked the post was clean before tightening it back. Then almost broke my finger putting the seats back.

Battery is great & car starts fine. I don't understand why the Prius mechanic didn't check this a few weeks ago?
