I can't really find information on oil catch can installation on a Prius C. Is there a need for it?

I just got the car used and it does not seems to be consuming oil. So does Prius C have issue of oil consumption? Or benefit from OCC?

Take a look through the throttle body throat: is there a pool of goop?

The throttle wasn't that dirty. I am not sure if cause the previous owner cleaned it or it was like that. The car had 140k km (87k miles)

Did you see anything, looking through to the intake manifold, any pool?

The intake manifold does not look that bad either. Again, maybe the previous owner had it cleaned before.

Even the EGR cooler looks to be in acceptable condition. By that I mean, I can see lights through the other side.

Where does the Prius c PCV come in from? I've heard the engine is carried over from second gen. Those engines have the PCV valve atop the the engine valve cover, at the left* end, which I think is a lot cleaner. Gen 3 Prius engine has the PCV valve positioned top/front of engine block, likely more prone to goop up the intake manifold. Oil catch cans are only helpful if the PCV is continuously dumping oil/water/gas mix into the intake.

Yes, the PCV does reside at the left top of the engine. It does means there is no need for a oil catch can then. I will probably use the spare OCC I have on another car.

    Thanks @Mendel Leisk

How effective is an OCC in catching oil from entering the combustion chamber? How detrimental is this amount of reduction to EGR buildup and catalytic converter longevity? People talk a lot about using OCC on Gen 3 Prii, but I have not seen any concrete data/analysis on its benefit.

Based on my reading of other people's results, it seems that an OCC can catch up to 10% - 15% of the lost oil in an oil-burning Prius. If this is true, then it is still an order of magnitude smaller from fixing the oil-burning issue, consequently casting a doubt on the worthiness.

    Please share your data/thoughts.
