Today I received my engine from a 2021 Toyota Corolla hybrid and am attempting to swap it into a Gen 3 Prius. This engine should be comparable to the Gen 4 Prius from my understanding and research. I have researched the differences, (Gen 4 vs Corolla hybrid) but have not been able to find a technical analysis on what exactly is different. Anyone know what the differences, if any, between the two engines are even though they are both 2zr fxe?

I saw a Corolla a few weeks ago with this type of setup It looked like the EGR system was a little different I didn't make a note of the year of the car It was a black thing with the front end almost like a 16 or 17 Prius but it didn't look like it would be too finicky I would want to thank almost everything would plug up except a few sensors or something but folks ought to be on the way in a minute with different.

If I had to guess, there's probably something related to the fuel system that might be challenging... First step of course is comparing every plug and wire on each engine, as well as lots of measuring to decide if all the biggest challenges that could come up aren't there. But the real test will be chasing error codes once the new engine is installed. Is this the engine with the transmission, or just the engine?

    Did this work for you?

my 3rd Gen prius engine is blown and I have a local person selling a 2021 Corolla 2zr fxe engine that he’s selling for a very good price.

I wonder if this worked for you??? Thanks in advance

They're the same engines so other than anciliary components fitted. Pretty much the same animal I guess the 2021 engine may have all the 2ZZ Atkinson updates the sleeves and the shields and whatever the heck they claiming they done. I think there may be some hose routing issues or two but nothing super serious It is the same engine essentially as you see by the 2zz designation. So when you buy one the best thing to do is pull yours out of your car and while it's hanging on the hoist if you're doing this at the house or what have you or at your shop for that matter you stand the two engines right next to each other one on the hoist one standing on the pallet and you pretty much see what you have immediately your throttle body routing is the same your intake is as flat and lays up against the engine like need be the exhaust same setup location etc you'll see one or two water connections that look different sort that out before you start dropping in the car you pretty much have an idea of what you have going on Will this fix all your problems who knows I don't even think the latest 2 l that's going in the newest Prius is going to fix all the problems that engine has its own set of issues I do believe.

Seems to me I might would look to the Lexus CT 200h engine same thing as a Prius The Lexus seems to have a lot less problems than any of the other two 2ZZ hybrid cars . At least that I can find to read about the Lexus CT 200h owners the little car that kind of looks like the Prius seem to be very happy and I don't see a whole lot of head gasket nonsense and any of the other stuff really being front and center as I remember I know a few people that own these cars of course they're not people to keep their cars to $400,000 either .
