It seems most every Prius on CarGurus and AutoTrader is from a dealer, and every Facebook Marketplace Prius is either from a dealer or has a rebuilt title. Is there another place all private owners are selling their Prius, or are most of them simply trading them in?

Yep....people are not selling them. I've been searching the used market for quite some time and pricing is just ridiculous.

Worse yet, I've seen lots of evidence that profiteers are pulling vehicles out of junkyards and god knows where else to make a quick buck. Bet very aware when shopping to look if the Prius you are interested in has a rebuilt ( formerly salvage ) title. Also, stay away from high mileage Gen3's...they are ticking time bombs.

FWIW we've always traded-in, a lot less hassle. I know, also likely leaves a lot of money on the table, but...

For a long time, Prii were stepping stones to EVs, back when EVs were scarce or simply not yet available. As the EV marketplace matured and a decent supply of EVs became available, plenty of Prius owners traded in their hybrids to go full EV.

I thought gen 3s were one of the best built cars? I use to own one and just started looking for one again. What gen are you looking to get? Thanks in advance

That must have been before the headgasket issues started appearing.
I was looking to get out of a Gen3, and into a longer range PHEV than exists in the Prius line. But supply problems and the new Inflation Reduction Act have interfered, and I don't yet have an updated plan.

Same here. My only plan as of now is to keep driving the 2012 Prius v until we find full details and specs of upcoming Gen 5's. (y)
