I’m just wondering, “why 3 DIFFERENT shops?”. Is it a trust issue or convenience?

 

What people keep insisting on calling a paper-clip "reset" is merely a trouble-code clear. It is a way of taking a car that has told you there's a brake problem, and making it temporarily forget that it told you there's a brake problem. That'll last as long as it takes for the car to again figure out it has a brake problem, and in the meantime, you're driving around in a car that has amnesia, and a brake problem.

To your question of whether that method works in Gen 4, I don't know. You could accomplish the same thing (as if there were any good reason to) by connecting a scan tool and doing a code clear that way.

Earlier generations also had certain other operations, like calibration relearns, that could be done with certain different "paper clip" tricks. I'm not sure whether Gen 4 has those, either, but those are things you do if the trouble codes that you have tell you to do them. (For example, in Gen 3, there can be a trouble code for the linear solenoid offset needing to be learned, so if you have that code, then you go do that procedure.)

The most urgent thing for you here is to know what trouble codes you have—not to clear them. Do you have a way of getting those codes?
