Hello all. Our 2017 Prius v has not been able to open for months. We took it to our mechanic. It's not an actuator or power problem. The problem is the button. It does not work anymore. When we press it, nothing happens. For a little while, my husband was able to rig a rope to pull the trunk latch open, but the rope was thin and broke after about three weeks.

Our mechanic called Toyota. They told him that we would have to replace the whole trunk door because it's a wiring issue. But those are all on back order.

Does anyone know how to maybe replace the button? Or maybe have installed a remote trunk opener? Our trunk was only opened manually. There was never a remote for opening the trunk.

I love my Prius v for the trunk space that it has. We have three car seats, so we cannot climb to the back to fudge around with the inside panel to open the trunk. Thank you in advance for anyone who can shed some light on the issue.

tell your mechanic to look in the srvice manual. there should be instructions for replacing the button.

you can find it at techinfo.toyota.com

Tell your mechanic about salvage yards. They have plenty of good parts for cheap.

Also tell him you're eager to pay his hourly rate while he goes through the salvage yards to find you those good parts for cheap.

Update: it was the button on the car that didn't work. The dealership told our mechanic that the whole back hatch had to be replaced, upwards of $300 for the part, and it was on backorder. I found the lift gate switch on ebay for $25. My husband replaced it in just over an hour. Now the trunk door works again. Thanks for giving me the idea to look for parts on Toyota. Once I figured out the part I was looking for, it was pretty easy to find it.

It was a local dealership. I'm not sure exactly which one he called. There are two in my area.

He had called around the yards to see if they had a Prius V. Apparently, local yards don't get them very often.
