Have this weird problem I haven't been able to figure out, the ignition timing goes to -10, have anyone had a Prius that does this? And while this is happening, the engine is misfiring And rattling, and there's a strong gasoline smell coming from the exhaust and the exhaust whooshes. I've changed fuel injectors, o2 sensors, spark plugs, maf. But I think this -10 timing has something to do with it.

Do you have any warning lights being displayed on the dash?

Which OBD2 scanner are you using, as many here like to use Techstream with a Mini-vci cable on a winblows device (or emulated).

Please tell us more about these replacement parts. Which plugs, injectors, sensors did you purchase (make/model or part #), and were they purchased OEM from a toyota dealer/local parts shop, or from which online retailers ? (knockoff parts are quite common).

I don't even know what the specs are for the ignition timing when the cars running you know 2000 RPMs or any of that but certainly 10° sounds a little off. And I'm sure it's all handled by the ECU one of them so it's either seeing something very strange or some kind of sensor is wacko

It's not 10, it's negative 10, which I think is kinda unheard of right?

Can't get tech stream to work, the manufacturer who sold the minivci cable only included driver that aren't compatible with modern win 8 and win 10 oses. I used different scanners. Torque pro, car doctor, auctel maxi 2000.
    Denso o2 sensors
I think the plugs are denso iridium, generic fuel injectors and other components, I don't know if it matters because the ignition timing has been fucked before the part replacements and it still is. I just threw a parts cannon on it.

But I can't really fix it without understanding why the computer would command -10 ignition timing. Does anyone know how this could happen

You have a problem- engine misfire with resulting rattle (from the transmission damper) and exhaust smell.

You also have an observation- ignition timing being commanded at (-) 10°. I am not sure that those two things are directly related.

I do know that when you ready up a Gen2 Prius after a cold soak, the ICE will run for a time (20-30+ seconds?) even if you don't immediately drive anywhere. During that "cold run" the ECM commands ignition to fire at (-)10° , that is 10° AFTER top dead center. It does this to cause the fuel air mixture to keep burning into the exhaust stroke so that the extra heat will help the catalytic converter to "light off" quickly.

So under some conditions the "late" ignition timing is normal.

Any misfire is not normal. Does the car miss all the time? More at idle, or under load? Cold or hot? Any check engine light and codes? Gotta go over basics - do the coils actually produce adequate spark? Do the injectors spray fuel? What are fuel trims when the engine is warm (at idle and at cruise)? Engine compression in spec?

So you have no warning lights, and no DTC codes?
Have you tried this preinstalled version : https://blog.obdii365.com/2019/11/04/download-techstream-v12-vmware-for-vxdiag-toyota/
Might try switching back to the old injectors, and see how much the fuel trims change. "New" chinese knockoffs have known issues.

Would also be suspect of knockoff plugs and coils, unless purchased from known retailers. When did you last inspect the plugs or cops?
