299,000 miles: multiple codes

Hello. Multiple codes were pulled in June when I thought red triangle was the Hybrid Battery. But no! Battery place said she is fine, just need to look at the engine.

P0172

I just had the spark plugs replaced with Iridium. Not sure if I should hang on to this car, but I am so attached to her. Original owner, lots of family memories in this car before divorce. 299,000 + miles.

I brought the car to the mechanic today because the red triangle showed up intermittently a few days ago. Of course it went off and stayed off when she heard I was taking her to the mechanic! He says he can't do much if the warning light is off and that it could be as small as a door ajar.

I know this isn't a lot of info for you guys to go on, open to any conclusions/guesses/ideas.

Thank you for responding. My mechanic told me to check it weekly as it has been eating oil for some time now. Oil was checked by mechanic yesterday and was fine.

Hello folks. Update. We got our first major snow. I park on the street. This morning in 20 F I cleaned the snow off of the car and ran the heat for 3 minutes, while parked to help defrost the windshield. No warning lights came on.

Next, I drive the car 20 minutes and hear a fan come on along the way. I know that is not good. I park and get the red triangle, ABS, the whole thing. I use my FIXD scanner and see I pulled P3191 today. Yesterday it was P0420 and mileage went down quickly to 33 from 45. This happens this time of year for a week or two. Could it be due to the gas station changing to winter gas ?

At 299,000 + miles I am unsure if I should put more money into the car. I have an appointment to put on my winter tires and change the engine air filter and serpentine belt this week. I guess I wait and see if all of that helps at all.

Original HV battery, owner. No battery codes have been pulled and the HV battery guys in June said the battery was fine.

Any feedback is appreciated. I am reluctant to trade up but also need reliable transportation to regularly visit family a 3-hour drive away. Thanks in advanc for reading this.

 

Update: I have been having low mpg (32mpg) and it sounded like a fan was coming on with the gas engine.

Took to mechanic today to put on my winter tires. We did a few things for p3191.

• Checked all fluids. Oil was down 1/2 a quart.
• I used my FIXD scanner to check auxiliary battery, 12.2 v
• Next we replaced the engine air filter, cleaned the MAF intake (no leaves there!) and cleaned the throttle body. Also replaced the serpentine belt as recommended by other shop.

I drove on the highway and it was smooth. Plus, instead of lower mpg due to winter gas in Canada ( a thing) and winter tires.... I was getting 55mpg! I haven't seen that in years. I have been averaging 45 summer/35-40 winter.

I will test on a 1 hour highway commute tomorrow and if all goes well may drive 3 hours to see family on Thursday. Fingers crossed.
