I have a 2017 Prius that I recently replaced the 12 volt battery. When I got the car back, I did mot think much had changed. I had to reset the clock and check the settings and reset them if needed. Tonight, I noticed that my stereo had two lights that had not been there before. The two knobs had a light strip above them, and there were two little lights on each side of the CD "slit." I always thought Toyota was careless for not lighting these up because I had to "feel" my way to turn up the volume, etc.

So, did I get a software update, or did the reset turn on a feature I had no idea I had? Should I anticipate any other surprises? Could I have gotten a system software update for the engine as well?

Yeah, those lights were always there. Somebody turned down the brightness using the buttons on the left by your knee.

When the brightness is turned all the way up, those lights don't light up.

Who did the battery swap? There are "memory saver" devices that supply power during the swap, avoid having to reset stuff. Competent pros should have/use these.
