Hi there, I got the idea to put black tape over the yellow tire light from this forum. My sensors need to be replaced, according to a local tire shop, and the price is near $500. I'm hoping to keep the tape on the light longterm and was wondering if I should be worried about this approach in any way. I have a cordless RYOBI tire inflator that I keep with me. I was hoping I could take care of this repair when I next switch out my tires. Thoughts anyone? Thank you in advance. Here's a photo of what it looks like with the tape. The light started to come on recently with the cold weather. I filled up the tires, and the light stayed on. I then tried to reset the tire light sensitivity with the button under the steering wheel, and that didn't work. Next, took it to the tire shop. 2008 Prius. IMG_4173.jpg

Absolutely no problem letting the TPMS die, unless it fails you at some inspection. Of course you want to be a little more attentive to tire pressures, and you may miss the early warning it gives. But other'n that...

Why mess up the plastic shield with tape though? With our TPMS-less snow tires, we're looking at the light 5 months outa the year; we survive.

Thanks, Mendel! I saw your profile when I researched this topic prior to taking this issue to the tire shop this week, and those posts were from years ago. You have been on this forum longterm!

I suppose I could get used to the light. It does flash a lot though. Also, I'm using paper tape so I hope it doesn't mess up the surface.

Tpms set on Amazon is only $40.99, roadfar brand, perfect fit. I’ve bought 4 sets and they are all perfect

You can bring it to any tire shop and they can put them on.

Ok! I am buying them now on Amazon, and I called another tire shop who will charge me $30 for the install. Nice!

Yes you have to have the tires off the rims to screw on the new TPMS sensors takes all of seven seconds per wheel but you have to have the tires off that's the key or the bead broken and pushed down on the valve stem side of the wheel 30 bucks is a good deal there you go.

I don't know who might find this update as of February 26, 2023 useful, or if this will be seen, but funny news: the tire light turned off on its own. We are having historic storms in Southern California. My car is safe. But when I started my car yesterday morning, the light was off! No money spent to fix this. Unlike what the tire shop wanted to charge me ($500). I will update another thread about this issue, called "tire shop shenanigans."

My local tyre shop charges 7 bux to screw them on and off .. whilst changing or rotating or car already they're. And he will tell other people come back when you're ready to change the tire and all and we'll do the sensor the tire and everything all at once so you only pay one fee think it's $13
