Appears to be different models or trim levels in the photos. Note the difference on the steering column. I wonder what the extra top part in the 2nd photo is?

That'll be driver eye monitoring, presumably for some level of driving assistance. (One of the press photos had the IR LEDs illuminated and picked up by the camera sensor.)

Looks like a big pile of shiny touch screen stuff that you can't use because the manufacturer won't let you use things while the car is in motion. Last time I checked that's what cars do, they're in motion. Yes I'm getting on my pedestal about this one. Looks like a car I won't buy unless I can save money by opting out of all that electronic gadgetry that I can't use

Typical. Fifty shades of gray (white through black), and one real color.

There are about 650 named colors. We can see like a million colors. Why does Toyota limit the Prius to so few boring colors. WHY???

What happened to that thermal reflective green?

    Hmm.
Maybe, it has something to do with Toyota wanting to sell cars and make a profit?
Especially after all of the time, money, and hard work they put into designing, and then making the vehicles?

It's not just the Prius and not just Toyota. Most manufacturers have shades of black/white/gray plus one red. More interested in producing what most will accept, not what a minority (although maybe more than they know) want.

Surveys of most popular car colors are based on what people buy when they don't have much choice, so don't mean much.

Subaru is an exception, lots of different colors over they years.

Has there been any indication when the Gen5 will be available in the U.S.?

By Feb for the straight hybrid, by May for the Prime. Given there are months long waits for popular cars, the queue will fill fast.

    That was my guess.

We didn't get that literally cool green. Why change? Though I think the yellow at the reveal was the Prime, maybe an exclusive to it.

Doesn't help that dealers are doing most of the selecting. Even when there is an interesting color or interior, you'll most likely need to order it. When sales and discounts are for cars on the lot only, well...

Some little cars have had actual colors. My Sonic was orange, and there was a deep green and purple in later years. The Spark had a silver pink, and there was almost a dozen choices for the Fiat 500.

I also wondered at first where the back door handles were, but they are up in the triangle behind the rear window. It will likely be hard for little kids to open the doors with the handles up so high (speaking as a grandpa with six grandkids).

It's an extension cord coming from the 100V AC supply inside - on Japanese versions. The window insert is a Toyota part which allows the cable to come through the window. I wonder whether the USA versions will have an inverter?

It looks like the fuel intake IS on the driver's side. That door on the passenger side is for the Prime, to plug in the electric to charge.

I understand about ground clearance - we get snow here, and when it's deep, I just stay at home (Or take my wife's AWD RAV4). I think when they say that the car is a couple inches lower, it's not ground clearance, but the top of the car. But I may be wrong.

Nope. 100V at 50Hz is Japanese power. We use 110-120V 60Hz here.

It's interesting they chose to go the performance route instead of chasing even more mpgs.
I think they're probably hitting some limit at around 65 mpg and finding that it's harder to squeeze out any more without killing the highway performance. You probably need a certain minimum ICE power to be able to overcome the aerodynamic drag on the highway as the battery can only help for short bursts. So instead they're going the route of packing in more hp at that mpg ceiling.

I notice that there are rain guards on the windows in the Japanese video.

It'd be nice, if people would at least watch part of a video, before they make comments in regards to that video.

Haven’t those been accessories for the Prius for every generation now?

One thing I noticed is the badge is not blue-accented logo for hybrids.

The big issue is reduced headroom. Based on a 5' 7" reviewer it appears maybe 5'10 or 5'11" is the limit unless a tall driver uses a significant back lean on the seat.
