Charger for Prime

    Hello, I am very excited to have just purchased a 2021 Prius Prime (first one for me). Unfortunately, the EV plug did not come with it when it was sold to the dealership. I've found a few used ones on Ebay that look promising, but wanted to see if there was a different plug depending on the year. I'd hate to buy one and it not work.

    Anything I need to consider when shopping for a replacement?

    Did you buy the car new? If so, it should come with a 110/120V charging cable from Toyota.

    All cars come with a J1772. It's the industry standard (except for Tesla) so anything with J1772 will plug into any PHEV or EV.

    I bought it used from a Honda dealership. Was disappointed that charger wasn't included.

    Thanks for the recommendation for the J1772. I'd like to buy used if possible to save some money.

    Any J1772 (the standard connector for both level-1 and level-2) will work. The only difference is how they connect... 120 or 240 volt... and the maximum amps they can provide. Your Prius Prime won't care, since it will only draw what it needs. So, no worries in that regard. Quality of the charger (properly known as an "EVSE") will vary, so carefully read reviews.

    btw, if you live in the north, make sure to turn on the pre-conditioning feature. It will keep your battery warm for better winter performance.
