Corporations can do good, but it takes the profit motive for them to do so. The above are making sure marketing gets the word out for the public good will, and the accountants are getting all the write offs the donations are owed.

Don't forget the - jobs provided to members of society - the taxes and stimulus provided to the community - the desired products that the companies provide to society - the contributions to our GNP etc, etc, etc.

Toyota a key cog in Kentucky's economy (cincinnati.com)

"Combined with supported spinoff jobs in other industries, Toyota is estimated to support 29,700 jobs in Kentucky. This economic activity results in an annual financial contribution of over $1.3 billion to the state’s economy via disposable personal income."

Toyota also made mask for our Medical; Community when it had to shut down Auto production during the pandemic - at no charge

Toyota to make face masks in U.S. to aid coronavirus battle (yahoo.com)

Toyota’s response to COVID-19: Monetary and In-kind Donations - Toyota USA Newsroom

Companies are just groups of people, they aren't inanimate objects. They aren't much different than the people that make them up.

    Companies do much good.

    Companies do much bad.

A person with a balanced view is able to realize this.

Imagine life without pacemakers - insulin pumps - grocery stores - transportation - hospitals - Medical Centers etc

Do you honestly think they're doing these things out of altruism?

    That's sweet.

    Yes.

I worked for Toyota for almost 30 years. Every Toyota Employee went through extensive training before they went on the production floor. Every Employee was taught the motto below.

"We at Toyota see ourselves as more than a company providing all-round mobility solutions. We are citizens of the world, and therefore have a responsibility towards the planet - to leave things better than we find them."

We were also taught as representatives of Toyota we were to volunteer and give back to our communities as opportunities presented themselves. We were given days off from work to volunteer within the community.

During initial training for the job that took us to Japan for 6 weeks we were able to eat lunch with the then President of Toyota - guess what - he had two legs, two arms and a head - he wasn't any different than we were. He was personable, engaging and spoke to us just like he was one of us. He also reminded us of our debt to society and to contribute to our communities as opportunities presented themselves.

It is sweet that you think this is real.

It can be, with privately-held companies.

Once a company is listed, its primary responsibility is to maximise its shareholders' profits.

Yes, but big corporations provide the most ... ahem .... funding to politicians and political parties.

Of course small businesses are vital cogs of our economy. That is an excellent point we all should appreciate.

Only an unbalanced individual would not realize how important both small and big business is to economic health.

Many time we as people complain about dysfunction in Washington DC and the refusal of people to work together. This is often illustrated in the forum where individuals cannot bring themselves to compromise or have balanced views of a subject.
As it turns out the mess in Washington perfectly represents many of their constituents.

George Washingon warned over 200 years ago

George Washington's Farewell Address Included Three Main Warnings - HISTORY

"According to Washington, one of the chief dangers of letting regional loyalties dominate loyalty to the nation as a whole was that it would lead to factionalism, or the development of competing political parties. When Americans voted according to party loyalty, rather than the common interest of the nation, Washington feared it would foster a “spirit of revenge,” and enable the rise of “cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men” who would “usurp for themselves the reins of government; destroying afterwards the very engines, which have lifted them to unjust dominion.” "

Rogers: Hamilton Was Right, 'People Get the Government They Deserve' (westernjournal.com)

"Alexander Hamilton said, “People get the government they deserve.” If we want to know what’s wrong with our nation, we need to look in the mirror. Something has happened in America since 1776."
