Need advices on Prius Prime, high mileage

4th gen have been largely bullet-proof, apart from coolant leaks in exhaust heat recovery system. Not trivial, and dealerships seem to misdiagnose a lot, as head gasket going. That might be a bad batch, not general.

Your particular prospect: it could depend on previous owner, their attention to maintenance. Give it a good check over for basics, brakes, rust, water incursion, hidden damage, lost keys and so on.

 

and the price. if it drives well, has good ev range, i wouldn't hesitate except: we don't know the longevity of the battery. it should be good for at least 250k, but the warranty ebeded at 150k, so a failure would be a fairly major expense.

 

Don't forget to run a Carfax or equivalent to find prior impact damage, which would point to sqeeks, rattles, leaks, and possible hidden mechanical damage. If your not sure; take it to a reputable hybrid shop for a once over; before purchasing.

 

Which trim is it?

Id suggest you document the odometer and the 2 trip meters when you get the car.

There is also one screen on the MID that changes depending on the the Odo and 2 trip meters as well as the default single trip meter that resets every time the car is put in ready mode.

Exactly how the four variants of that screen work is not fully documented yet to my knowledge, but at very least it's the one screen that partially documents the % of EV driving.

be careful when pushing the trip button on the steering wheel (left hand side round button) it can reset the Odometers MPGs, as well as the trip a and b miles and MPGs - if the trip button is held in too long.

 

I've taken pics of the Drive Monitor screens a couple time already , but I still don't know exactly how or when each gets reset.
My screens are a bit more complicated since I reset manually by mistake the MPG on the odomenter sometime in the first year, by holding the steering wheel trip button in to long while taking pics of the dash.

But, I think my trip B still has the original mpg.
Only issue is both trip A and B reset miles automatically at 10k and I haven't been able to tell yet if the Drive Monitor screen also reset automatically at 10K
or
behave like the trip A and B mpg which don't reset automatically at 10k.
So far I'm assuming that the the Drive Monitor screes will reset if it's trip A or B is reset manually by holding the streeing wheel trip button for a few seconds. go figger ? right !
