I'll be heading out to sunny California next Tuesday to participate in the press ride and drive event for the new Prius. I'm super excited to get my butt in the seat and get my own questions answered, but I know you all have some questions of your own.

So, shoot away with your questions/photo & video requests and I'll do my best to either figure out the answer or pester a Toyota rep who does.

If you see a question that you're also interested in, feel free to like that post so that I know the level of interest.

Overall, I am impressed with the new design. I would like your take on:

    1. What you feel about the new information displays? Both the Driver display and the Multi-information center display. The pictures that I have seen thus far, make them seem small. Especially the center console. Would like your impression on how well they function and display info.

    2. How the interior roof height feels. There have been some concerns on it being a bit shorter. And how easy it is to get in and out of, compared to previous versions.

    3. Kind of a silly question, but: How does the center arm rest open up?

    4. Will there be a USB port for a flash drive, so we can play our own music?

Thanks. I am very jealous you get to test drive them.

Hi Danny, I'm surprised it took so long to get invited to actually sit in a new Prius, since your forum is one of the best Toyota forums around.
Anyways, the basics on my mind these days are mostly about the Prime, so if you only get into a regular Prius I'll be bummed, but I'll keep my fingers crossed they'll have a Prime their too. MSRP and expected Cali markup, L2 full charge time, EV range city / hwy, date dealers are expecting to see them delivered, what will the trims be called this time around,,,, Actually, anything you bring back to report to us here is a win in my book since there's been so much speculation about the release, it's been like a game of pong.
I hope your trip to LA is as great an experience as the anticipation of it.

    • What is the gross and useable battery capacity of the Prime.
    • What is the 0-60 time of the Prime in EV mode.
    • G4 has a HUD option, which I find indispensable. Will there be a HUD option for the US market.
    • Does the front passenger seat fold flat with the rear seat when folded like it does in the G2-G4.
    • Is the cargo area in the Prime flat with the folded rear seats.
    • Is there under-floor storage under the cargo area in the Prime.
    • Were any of the useful storage areas from G2 and G3 that were eliminated in G4 (double glove boxes, dash storage for small items, and so on) put back in G5.
    • What do you expect drivers who live where it snows to do without a rear window wiper.
    • What is the rating of the solar option.
    • Will the solar option be available in the US.
    • Will a smaller wheel option be available in all packages.
    • When will a Prius EV be available.
    • When are you going to start selling a useable seating material since Softex is not useable, due to lack of durability and lack of breathability.

    • Some of reviewers showed a spare for the Prius HEV, is there one for the Prime?
    • What is the charge rate of L2?
    • Is the battery liquid cooled?
    • Does it still have the charge mode?
    • Is it faster in EV mode than the RAV4 Prime?
    • How quiet is it on the highway?
    • Rear view monitor quality? Can it be left on if you don't get the digital mirror?
    • Is the low temp cutoff still 15ºF (-9.4ºC) for the heat pump or when the engine kicks on?
    • Can you verify that it has a 120V 1500W outlet, how many, where and on what trims?

    • What’s the power output on 87 octane (91 is recommended)
    • Thoughts on 87 vs 91 for the Prime (in terms of fuel usage and getting stale)
    • H-point? How does it feel getting in/out of the car (front and rear)
    • Visibility around the car?
    • General seat comfort (padding, bolstering, seat position relative to floor and ceiling etc)
    • Quietness of cabin (any difference between Prius and Prime models in terms of additional sound deadening or deflection or absorption)
    • Tonneau cover? (I notice manufacturers are cutting this out or only making it standard on top trim levels)
    • Seat back rake - comfy? Too upright? Can it recline?
    • Any wired connection for music? (USB thumb drive or phone connection or older iPods?)
    • Is navigation cloud connected (I don’t mean for voice searches. I mean will there still be native navigation after the free trial period? The new Lexus NX has cloud navigation that requires a subscription after the free trial like the old Scout GPS)
    • Any useful hidden cubbies? We only know of the one ahead of the shifter with the removable bin
    • How does the Qi wireless charger work? Does the phone lose contact when cornering? (Because the phone is slotted in sideways)
    • Armrest height of doors and centre console ok? (The door ones were too low in the Gen 3)
    • Perceived quality of materials - good? Improved over Gen 4?
    • Active grille shutter still there?
    • Weight and capacity of Prime’s battery
    • What is the benefit of the bipolar NiMH? Are we getting any NiMH cars or are all of them Li-Ion?
    • What kind of Drive Modes are available and are they noticeably different? Did Toyota make them different other than pedal sensitivity?
    • Is there an Auto EV Mode for the Prime or just EV and HV modes? If there is one, what the heck does it do as we still haven’t figured that out in the current Prime and it’s been 6 years
    • Any underfloor cargo storage?
    • Spare tyre?
    • Are the Prime’s lower front lights fog lights or clearance lights?
    • Why does Toyota insist on annoying warning messages that cannot be cleared? (E.g. ICS not working). You press OK and it’ll return in 10 secs.
    • Any power moonroof option or just pano roof?
    • Any changes to EV mode operation in the Prime? (E.g. top speed was 84mph. Guess it’s the same as there’s no need to go any faster but presumably 0-60 in EV mode is improved)
    • Flat floor in the rear?
    • Any other charge points aside from the 6 USB-C ports mentioned in the release?
    • V2L capability on the Prime?
    • Are all exterior lights LEDs or did they cut corners again?
    • Interior lights LEDs?
    • Power passenger seat?
    • Quality of SofTex seats? (They aren’t great in the Gen 4)
    • Quality of steering wheel SofTex? (Ask them if they’re aware of the peeling issue on the Gen 4/Prime and what they’ve done to improve that)
    • Any new engine tech specific to Prius introduced with this Dynamic Force engine over the standard ones found in the Camry/RAV4. Is this Powertrain the same one shared with the Corolla Cross?

Front seat room for tall people (6'5"), both in the drivers seat and passenger seat. Lots of vehicles don't fit us because my husband is 6'5" and generally runs into issues with knee room in the front passenger seat, and occasionally headroom. He fit in my 2016, but I have concerns about the 2023...at least a few of the videos I've seen so far have mentioned that headroom is a bit tight up front.

I just have a basic question: how much do they cost? Trim levels, tax credits, MSRP, option pricing, etc.

Watch for Wayne Gerdes' review over at Cleanmpg.com. He's over 6 foot, and if he has a chance will post a composite photo of himself in both the driver's and rear passenger seat for worse case seating position for tall people.

    Would like to know:
    • Catalytic converter position
    • Expected Prime battery degradation over time
    • Whether it will be possible to choose seats without the red accents in the Prime
    • Engine noise and road/tire/wind noise impressions
    • Handling/stability impressions given the narrow tire width

The tires are the same width as the current Prius.

195 mm on 19 inches? I’ve never even seen a width less than 205 on 17 inch wheels

    compare 195 65R15 / 195 45R19 = 1 inch difference in tire diameter. - Tire Size Comparison
the graphic of 195 45R19 on the web page in my opinion - doesn't give an accurate visual of exactly how low profile the 196 45 R19 tire is actually going to be IRL.

There are surly going to be a ton of programming changes comparing gen 4 and 5.

195mm. The rim diameter is irrelevant to the tire width.

I consider 195mm to be HUGE for a car of this size. My 2004 had 185mm wide tires and that was more than sufficient. I had a car twice this size that had 225s.

It's still early. Toyota change tire sizes to what is available in a given market.
The size from a photo is 195/50R19. That's 1.7in larger diameter, and the 17in one is 2in larger.

Definitions for low profile tire are based on the aspect ratio. The sidewall height can't be more than half the width of the tire. Whether these 19in rims have low profile tires depends on where you put the cut off; at 50%, or below it. I've seen both presented.

This at least has already been answered in the Toyota press releases with brief lists of features for each trim. Regular Prius: LE, XLE, Limited; Prime: SE, XSE, XSE Premium. Only the base trim for each car gets the 17" wheels; only the XSE Premium has the solar roof available.
