Confirmed that Japan has a spare as an option on the HEV, not on the Prime. The smaller battery allows for the spare and the AWD motors. I assume the US HEV will also get the spare, but we don't know for certain yet.

I'd also say this about the North American version of the Prius HEV: Even if a spare is not officially offered in our market, it shouldn't be that hard to convert over. The only difference will likely be the bottom of the cargo tray under the floor. It might take a little digging, but we should eventually be able to find the part number of the Japanese tray that holds the spare. Get that, a donut spare, and a tool kit with jack and you should be good to go.

Works for the hybrid, but the spare loss being lamented is mainly among PHEVs.

The new Prime's battery has been moved to under the rear seat, but it appears to extend back some. That may keep a spare tire from fitting in the well it would normally go. There are collapsible spare tires now that take up less space. Surely higher cost, and needs a compressor handy to make use of.

I'm right there with you since I'm planning on getting a PHEV. On the flip side, I've already got a Ryobi battery operated tire inflator, so that might save my butt in a slow leak situation. A blow out, on the other hand...

Fourth gen owners retrofitting a spare found it pretty expensive to do a seamless job, over a grand for sure.

No spare tire on the XLE trim. Just saw a video(with a really annoying presenter) that had an XLE and that was one of the things he pointed out was not available at that level. He didn't say whether it would be on the Limited, just that it wasn't on the XLE. He also didn't open the cargo floor on the XLE to show how the bottom tray is configured. Sounds like most of our questions will be answered next week when the test drive and detailed review embargo drops(at least on the HEV Prius).

I have a hunch I watched the same (annoying) guy. Maybe you persevered better than me, to hear the spare info, I just kept skipping forward.
