I have owned this Prius V for 2 years, just noticed that it has never had its entune updated, still using the original software.
I went to toyotas website to download the update but it says it’s unavailable. I understand 10 years is a long time, just wondering if there are downloadable updates located somewhere else online?
Or if there is a nice aftermarket headunit that swaps in easily that has more modern features.
I saw a gorgeous Alpine head unit on youtube but that was for a much newer Prius Plus or Alpha model still marketed around the world.

The online entune server has been shutdown. Some have updated to more modern head units.

Updating the head unit firmware (which we did several years ago) may have benefits separate from the server having been shut down, but I don't know that for sure. The software loads via a 2GB memory stick inserted to the onboard USB. I recall finding and downloading it from the Toyota Tacoma group, FWIW.

There are iso versions of the basic head unit firmware but some will brick the unit and none really added new features that were helpful. The maps can be updated for several hundred dollars at the dealer but have no free downloadable options due to their security features.

You won't get Carplay, online features (some were lost with the Entune server) or traffic in any case with the standard head unit.

Just to clarify anyone looking for info I find that if you download the (correct version) of the Entune app, open it, connect to the car with Bluetooth, the screen will offer OTA updates on the ATP…

Which version Entune is that, sourced from where?

With v1.7, we saw updates to some of the embedded features/functions, without ATP.

    I can’t remember the details I’m afraid.

I did not really pay attention because it was in the form of a pop up on the head unit display in the car. I can say that these updates occurred when you properly have the app on your smart phone. (Open the app on your phone with Bluetooth connection to the car). Then open Apps on the car head unit. Technically this is not Over The Air because you are using your cell phone data, but that is all I needed to do.

I think twice it did something like delete an app. I believe iHeart Radio disappeared (I regret updating that time) and I vaguely remember Restaurant and/or Movie something…

Since the free Toyota Care expired I’ve been doing as much maintenance as I can on my own, so taking it to the dealer for a USB update was rare. Anyone in the Los Angeles area Wondries in Alhambra was super cheap when I last updated the maps. Although I went unconventionally first to the parts department first to buy the activation card….

That's what happened here, too. You are correct that it was both USB and cellular, in that local services including gas prices and live traffic (among other live features) are via cellular link.
