Feel free to bring any and all advice and insults, I no doubt deserve them.

The two dashlights in the photo appeared approximately six months ago, the car has run fine otherwise.

I have also included a photo of the message displayed in japanese that my main panel has been locked to since that fateful day. If anyone here is fluent I would be most grateful for a translation!

My sincere thanks to all of you and Happy Holidays. 20221209_214650.jpg 20221027_200939.jpg

    The message just says

"Check Hybrid System. Please stop at a safe place"

I'll have to have my brother look He's fluent and some Asian languages maybe there's some Asian people that lurk here. Have it's been running good for 6 months and been getting reasonable gas mileage that's probably something silly like the catalytic converter code the threshold code things like that If you are in Asia I would think getting a tec stream scan would be pretty easy and not have to be done at a dealer I would hope. Good luck

Yeah I guess that's about the only message this car has is check hybrid system blah blah blah want to say that in some Asian person wing in and say it says completely the opposite come to think of it I don't think our Gen 3 is ever said much of anything else and I think that was because the door was unlatched. I think it's interesting that they always want me parked on level ground and checking the hybrid system.

I see a check-engine light, an electronically-controlled braking ((!)) light, a seatbelt warning light, and the master warning triangle.

That's three warning lights by my count (plus the seatbelt light, which I assume to mean just that you were daredevil enough to take a photo while not strapped in).

Have the other three, plus the "check hybrid system" message, all been there for six months?

The trouble codes responsible for those lights being on can all be read with a suitable scan tool. It may also be possible to read the codes behind the ((!)) light—but not the others—with a no-tool procedure where you use a jumper wire and count some light blinks.

There's a chance, though, that the only code that blinks on the ((!)) light will be the "hey, go read the codes for your master triangle" code.

Stopped rotating? Stopped applying power? Stopped supplying power? And if you ran a simple experiment on a bunch of Prius owners to see if they could tell you more often than chance when those things had happened (without relying on a scan tool), I wonder how many could....

'Stopped rotating' would be the easiest to notice....

Which motor stopped? Actually, if either one stopped rotating, he couldn't have been driving the car at all.

That's what makes 'stopped rotating' easy to notice.
