Hey y'all. P0420 on my 2007 Gen 2 found at emissions testing in Illinois. Aftermarket cat was installed after mine was stolen about 2 years ago.

If I installed an O2 sensor extender and went back to emissions testing, do we think that's something they'd look for? My understanding is using one to pass emissions is illegal. I also understand that lots of folks do it. If I had known about it, I would have installed one prior to my 1st test. But I figure that they'd keep an eye out for quick fixes. Then agaaaaain, these are gov't employees that wouldn't do any extra detective work if it wasn't required of them. My car's got 300K+ miles, so it's not long for this world, and not worth spending too much money fixing.

    Ehh?

So I'm not understanding what happened here when you put the extender on did the vehicle pass emissions? I have one of these extenders that has a little piece of the cat material in the bottom of the extender It was only like $18 and it has a swivel on it and it can be bent 90° and all kinds of nonsense I haven't even installed it yet I didn't want to use the cheap spark plug fowlers they stick out too far and they get red hot and they're not made out of very good material this other thing that I bought is made out of a certain type of stainless steel and it's a pretty decent looking part I have not put it on. In my state the check engine light being on does not keep me from getting inspected or rather my county so I haven't worried about it I'm still getting 47 mi to the gallon I am interested to know if this worked on your car and the only reason you're $300,000 mi Gen 2 is not going to go much longer would only be from generally rust in Chicago or Illinois not because of the car mine's over $300,000 and I don't expect anything to go wrong at all It should go to 666 without much effort

No idea if it would work.

But a cheap cat shield would limit visual inspection.

Not sure how that would stack up $$$ vs a cheap replacement cat.

I don't think standing off the lower O2 sensors going to do anything in the Prius like it doesn't Corollas and what have you. I think it's the test that the Prius runs on the converter that's failing it for whatever reason but I haven't tried one in my Prius yet I have one I just haven't tried it because in the Prius we need one that bends 90° because the regular spark plug extender you'll be smacking into the I don't know what side of the car almost so you want this little thing was it 18 19 mm and it's on a swivel so it puts your O2 sensor going with the pipe direct the length of the sensor going with the pipe direction instead of across it if you know what I mean
