maybe the us will follow in price drops. i'd rather see more models sold at lower margins, even if it means wall street loses some interest in tesla

With my 1981 Comutacar , yes had a backup for non-town driving.

Once I got the Volt I didn’t need a backup but did anyway in the form of a 2000 Honda Insight and a truck or suburban for hauling trailers and crafts

In China Tesla actually has a high level of competition. In the USA, almost all of the ‘competition’ is making BEVs in limited numbers.

This is a very easy first step for two car households. I would be curious to see those stats.

In my case, we became a one BEV household in 2010. We quickly realized we didn’t need any gasoline, and became a two BEV household in 2013.

 

I’m sure if household members are like minded, it’s easy to pull off.

 

It depends somewhat on driving patterns and charging availability.

I know of some two BEV households, some 1 BEV + 1 PHEV, and some 2 ICE cars.

 

Our neighbors have two model threes. There had some long trip charging issues, but nothing to deter them. They’re older, but quite intrepid

 

Well, in the US, over 58% of households have two or more cars. So the odds are good that the BEV owner has such access.

We are a two car family and my partner had an unreliable car. We would take the tesla on road trips if together, or fly, or if she was driving to see her family without me would rent a car. Now she has a reliable SUV, and we have taken it on a road trip. It drinks a fair amount of gas, but her commute is only a couple of miles and she bikes there often. My guess is her vehicle will go about 4000 miles in the next 12 months, many of them on trips.

 

Most people are completely unaware of climate change, air pollution or fossil fuel issues, or don’t care.
My brother and his wife both drive gas sports cars, are well educated, and could care less.
They think I’m the odd one , and they’re right, considering the percent of gassers on the road compared to ev’s

I prefer being up by 40-47%.

You don't have to buy a Tesla new or used. There are less expensive EVs but the ones with CCS-1 based, fast DC charging will be difficult to live with. The are OK for around town and most L2 charging but CCS-1 remains a challenge.

Lets see how Tesla did that...

Tesla is offering a rebate of $7500 and 10,000 miles of free Supercharging if you take delivery of a Model 3 or Model Y by December 31.

And they still have 35,000 cars that they made but could not deliver.

The Scandinavian country wants to phase out sales of new petrol and diesel cars by 2025 using a 'polluter pays' tax system that will incentivise the purchase of low and zero emission vehicles.

Introduction of its strengthened green tax system is expected to encourage people to opt for clean transport over fossil fuel-powered vehicles.

Yeah, I'd buy an EV if you made it the only choice. In the USA, Sales of EV's have taken off in the last two years. That just happens to have coincided with a state government mandate to ban the sale of ICE cars in the near future. It should be easy to sell a Tesla if it was legal to tell prospective buyers that the resale value of the competition was going to be zero in just a few years.

 

Sounds like someone might be a tad disgruntled - having to face the new world.

As for the $7500 dollar amount - iirc that's a tax credit that applies to many electric cars .... turning on a buyer's income, + where it's made, as well as its msrp, which means not all Tesla models or perspective buyers are qualified to receive it.

Tesla was offering a temporary price reduction of an amount equal to the potential possible '23 tax rebate to move deliveries to 4Q22 rather than people waiting till 1Q23. Pictures of their lots full of undelivered and thus unsold vehicles were spread all over the net. Still have full lots. We live in interesting times.

 

Hill managed to get it 100% wrong.

I can understand why people who are interested in Toyota spend a lot of time on this board, but why are people like Hill and Bob Wilson spending so much of their time bashing the company and pushing EVs. His most recent post wasn't even close to having a grain of truth.

Like mikefocke, over the last two years I've seen two parking lots of shuttered businesses that were used as Tesla storage areas. Only recently have the lots started to empty out. Here's one where the entire parking lot was full, including not only the marked parking spaces but the lanes between them. This lot is only 25 miles from the Fremont plant.
