Sounds like it is close to CARB's in terms and targets. But what volume of ZEV sales does Toyota need, and what are the price of credits?

For the volume, 1.7 million new cars were sold in Canada. The US was almost at 15 million. While only certain states are part of the ZEV program, those that do are, at the least, 20% of new sales. The industry likely needs twice the credits in the US.

With limited plug in production, it could cost Toyota less to send the minimum to Canada they need. buy the credits they need, and send everything else to the US CARB states.

Is this purely based on engine displacement? Other markets that have done this simply results in turbo and super charged engines below the size cut off that suck down the fuel of the larger.

A 5-year wait for a Sienna? Is that a joke??? Holy moly!! I'm surprised a dealership would print something like that....might be better not to say anything because they REALLY aren't sure.

My daughter and SIL just told me they are saving to replace their 2012 Sienna. They'd like a used hybrid to get better mileage so will have to wait a few years to get one used, if they can find them...folks seem to drive their Siennas FOREVER before getting rid of them. (Good vehicles.)

Yes , AFAIK it is purely based on engine displacement....agreed that other markets have done turbo and super charged engines below the size cut off.
Its looks like there are indicators showing to address or modify the purely based engine displacement aspect.

Some stock is on the lot in Texas. Especially trucks or gas cars. The waits are weeks or months except for the Primes and Toyota EVs.

It is different in the US where the dealers and distributors are allowed to jack up the prices. Over at Chevy there is more stock. A new mid engine Corvette is on the lot with a $100k markup.

Toyota Financial is still offering reduced rates. Requires good credit but amounts to a discount if financing. Trades or private sales (my method for the last twenty years) are still over historical averages as well. Toyota will sell all they can make.

    Here's Quebec's mandate.

    Here's a cheat sheet:

Here's the proposed % of sales from 2025 to 2035 to be amended (June 2022)

    2025 22.00%
    2026 26.00%
    2027 34.00%
    2028 43.00%
    2029 53.00%
    2030 65.00%
    2031 77.50%
    2032 87.50%
    2033 94.00%
    2034 98.50%
    2035 and subsequent 100.00%

That's one way of doing it. Other countries have done it for decades.

That's how the CARB ZEV program works; number of credits needed by a manufacturer is the percentage of their sales volume. A source I saw earlier stated Canada choose to follow CARB's program to ease confusion. The targets for the past programs appear the same, while the CARB targets start higher until they both hit the 100% at the same time. Canada is calling PHEVS and hydrogen ICEs LEVs, while they are T(ransitional)-ZEVs for CARB. CARB has limits on how much of a manufacturer's ZEV credits can come from T-ZEVs, and that amount drops over time. Didn't notice anything about that for Canada's.

The 2026 target for CARB is 35%, which isn't going to have much bearing on where Toyota ships cars this year. I think the important thing for that decision is the cost for them to buy short fall credits.

The WLTP actually is three different tests. Which to use depends on the car's power to weight ratio. The power and curb weight are known, so just a simple calculation to base a tax structure on.

In Europe, Prius+ was the 7 seat version of the USA Prius v.

Wasn't this the so called Kodak/Nokia sunset all EV fanatics warned about?
    Oh well, maybe in 2024.
