we're probably gonna be waiting a while for the $25k car. Or are bolt and M3 getting closer to that price with the reductions. I was thinking the $25k car would have a Lifepo4 pack, but that is already being put in the base M3 from what I've read.

The Bolt is already close to the $25k point, and does so with a nickel-cobalt pack. The tax credit puts it under. LFP would lower the price, but also the range. That pack in the Model 3 RWD takes up the space of the Li-ion in the long range model. The LFP per cell cost is lower, but more cells are added to keep the range comparable to what a Li-ion pack would provide. For some models, there simply isn't the space to do so.

    PS: This is a M3:cool:

Maybe Tesla needs to direct some of its profits back into quality control?

Must be a fun experience to have the steering wheel fall off while driving:eek:

How do you pull over with no steering wheel?

And the more I read about braking modes and switches and changing settings when coming to a stop ....

Read it. Perhaps it would be way more horrible if Ford wouldn't have had to recall 1.4 million of their product for the same symptom. 1.4 million vs how many via the competition?

What I find interesting and I'm sure after the police and criminals investigation is over the R and D engineers should be all over the 250 ft cliff crashed Tesla. Moral decisions aside from the driver's actions.......the fact that 4 humans. I assume in normal health went over a cliff in a Tesla and they all survived! I don't know the story or trajectory of the fall but IMHO from the limited photos and video the fact that there were no fatalities is mind blowing to me. :eek:Makes me think about the average wreck in a parking lot in a Tesla would be much much safer. When we owned a MB GL550 a large selling point was the airbag count and the rollover rating. I know Teslas are quite safe. Very safe in fact. But my goodness! With $3K in rebates on Model S and X....Other companies may have to do similar to get people to re think Tesla. Automation drives the cost of production down for sure. Not sure if the cost will be seen by the buyer. But 50 years from now when Hertz, California, US,Europe,EU are flooded with Teslas....and the Tesla brand has 50 percent of the car market........will we see a $25K Model Y. eventually the demand for a $25K Tesla will be met because the ONLY consumers who won't already own a Tesla will be left to sell to. Right? How many Puegot Citrogens are there in EU? They were #1 right? Tesla was #2? I would look for that to change...but it will take awhile. Probably not in my lifetime.

Shh... All the corporate controlled robots on here are trying to not allow us to mention Tesla because the price is better than the rest so we have to pretend they "actually are not a car manufacturer" and all the cars they sell don't count and Toyota is still #1 even though they're only pretending to sell cars in North America/countless people have been waiting 2 years for the Toyota they want to buy.

Where are your manners @bisco ? What happened to your loyalty to corporations that don't allow themselves to be upstaged even if they have been?

Are you talking about the guy in SF who tried to kill himself his wife and his two kids by driving off a cliff but they all survived and now he's in jail based on the data/evidence that exists thanks to Tesla's superior design?

If that suicidal maniac was driving a Toyota his plan would of worked out great, but you know, he got tired of the waiting list and decided on buying from a car maker that actually has an honest inventory.

I looked at the M3 pricing page yesterday too. True enough the base price for M3 is around 40K.
Though if the buyer wants anything other than the black on black base model 3, the final damage is going to add up pretty fast. And who knows what other costs are going to be, much like any other new car buyer experience.

One screen shows that I can save $400 a year or $1200 for 3 years in gas costs using 50 mpg in the Prius.

It’s actually Midnight Silver that is the base color.

It actually costs me more to drive electric.
There aren’t any hidden costs with Tesla.
If I build what I want (blue with white interior)
It’s $42,000. Plus delivery plus $250. Order charge.
Less $11,000. Tax credits here, $$32,000. And change.
We just paid $35,000. For a new hycam, which is a very nice car, but not in the league of the M3.
If Mrs B were willing to drive to Florida in the Tesla, we would have bought it, but she still has range anxiety.
Of course, she has that when the gas gauge fails below 3/4 :p

    Now try insuring it.

And check the cost to replace a tire or other parts. Factor in the cost of electricity and the fact that fuel costs on a prius are already low.

What I have found here in NY is that any savings the Tesla provides will be cancelled out by insurance and parts. In addition for those of us above the income cutoff for incentives a Tesla is paradoxically prohibitively expensive.

Added value for Toyota: the CEO is not embarrassing. Driving one does not signify that I am a rich douchebag, a free speech warrior, or a bigot. The worst stereotype of a prius driver is that you’re an uber driver (or a plain old lousy driver)…but I’ll take that any day over Tesla stereotypes.

Theyre beautiful cars but I am glad I decided to go with a Prius given the recent Musk incidents. I just can’t support that kind of culture. I don’t need the CEOs of the companies that make products I buy to be virtuous model citizens. I just need them to not be absolutely terrible and proud of how terrible they are. I just need them to keep their politics out of their press. Toyota does this, for the most part maintaining a veneer of neutrality. Tesla doesn’t and it is going in the wrong direction for me.

Please tell us more about toyota's veneer of neutrality ....

    Lexus-talking-trash-on-EVs-1.jpg

Henry Ford hated Jews, do you still hold that against Ford and never buy their vehicles? Jeez - let go. Maybe think how musk managed to do something no one else's done in 80 years, start a car company despite the huge regulations in place since 80 years ago.

As for insurance? Everybody's area is different and when we had Tesla's - we paid no more / no less than other cars we insured of similar value. Toyota's leadership has started to change & eventually musk will pass away and it's leadership will change.

    ;)

you sound like my friends and relatives who won't go to florida because of ronda santis

seriously though, i do realize bev insurance is higher, and it has always cost me more to drive ev than gas because of our 40 cent/kwh rate.
but i'm more into the save the planet stuff, and love ev driving. the tesla experience was far and away better than any of the 9 toyotas we've had over the last 25 years, but i do realize toyota reliability is still near the top.
if they ever build an acceptable bev, ill be on board. i'm not denigrating the new prius, it just doesn't fit my driving situation, or my age.
i wish everyone who gets one the best, and hope they sell well enough for toyota to continue the series.
mrs. b just bought her fourth hycam though, and is thrilled with it, as am i.
