Just changed my oil and was gonna reset the mileage counter in the maintenance section on the dash computer. I get the message “Unable to reset this item. Setting possible up to the year 2022.”

    what does this mean?

another recent thread says the software wasn'tprogrammed for dates beyond that, so you're on your own.

you'll still get the regular maintenance message every 5k though, if you have difficulty remembering

How does it know what the current date is? I have no recollection of seeing a date on any MFD display, but on the other hand, I never looked for one. For the car to have the right date it either needs a backup power source (like a lithium coin cell) or it must be pulling it out of the radio somehow. The coin cell should have long since died for this model car though. I also don't recall a field in Techstream for setting the car date, but again, I never looked for it.

Between the 300K limit on the odometer and now this, clearly some Toyota engineers need to be sent to the woodshed.

there's a maintenance log in your mfd for your personal use. the date is probably just a countdown from when you program it

You set the date in one of the setup screens.

So change the date to 2013, or 2003, or whatever, and just ignore the year. If it shows the day of the week that may be off, but the date should be OK (or at worst off by 1 day in a plus/minus leap year situation.)
